I’ve been going through my old photos looking for the better ones to scan and came across this one.
I took this photo a week after these cuts in the grass were made.
So over to you with what, where and which special occasion?

I can believe it wasn’t as dramatic as reported to me, but I was getting the infomation after a weeks worth of embelishment. I suppose I’m lucky it was only a week I dread to think the manouvres it would have been performing after a fortnights telling.

I have seen video footage of that take off, from the far end of the runway and I’m not sure it was quite that dramatic, although it was a noticeable lurch!

Web Pilot is correct, Black Six did indeed have a prop strike on its maiden take-off.
They chose to use 24 Grass which was a runway we in the VGS had stopped using because the RAF had put a cable trench across it for the new radar installation. Black Six hit this trench causing the prop strike. The VGS staff watching the take off from the control caravan stationed by A Hangar swear they saw two full plan views, the top view as it hit the trench and the underside as it was hauled off the ground. The prop had to go back to Germany to have its tips straightened
Here’s Black Six in A hangar at Benson

Now who is going to be a cleverclogs and work out from the spacing of the strikes what speed it was doing?

17th March 1991, RAF Benson. First post restoration flight of Bf109 G-2/trop “Black 6”.
At a guess.
