Morning all,
First post, so, hello!
I’ve been wondering what actually happened to Aeroplane Icons magazine. Does anyone here have any inside knowledge as to why Key stopped publishing it?
I have emailed KeyPublishing and Aeroplane magazine but I didn’t even get a courtesy response. Over the last few months I have ordered a few specials over the ‘phone and asked the sales team why they had stopped publishing this magazine – one had no idea and the other said only “for editorial reasons”.
Now, I really enjoyed this series of ‘bookazines’, the photo quality wasn’t always that great but as a collection of monographs on great British planes they were unique. I’m not going to buy books on all of the subjects they covered and they were a great excuse to dip into the vast Aeroplane archive and republish some contemporary info. I was really looking forward to the last announced magazine on the Gloster Javelin! What happened to it? Is it still out there somewhere waiting to be published as a special? If only Air-Britain would published a few more “files” like the Scimitar and Sea Vixen I would buy those books in a flash! But these magazines were the next best thing.
Anyway, does anyone from Key Publishing post here? It would be nice if there was some sort of ‘official’ response. Thanks for reading, if you have any thoughts on this series of magazines I’d love to hear them, maybe I was the only one who bought them!

Didn’t the author pass away and it is discontinued…?
Wow… didn’t know that and no mention of his passing can be found on any of the Aeroplane Icon webpages. That is a sad loss.
As tragic as that is for Tim’s family and friends I can’t believe this magazine was a one-man-band. Certainly Martyn Chorlton was responsible for a number of them. Particularly in the beginning when this title was part of Kelsey Media. I would have thought the title was bigger than one man and must have sold reasonably well, but I may be wrong and no one felt up to filling Tim Mclelland’s shoes. Maybe Martyn didn’t feel he could continue on his own, or maybe Key Publishing didn’t want to continue, what was originally, somebody else’s title.
