is it just me or does anyone hate the smell of an aircraft when you get on it? If you do please share my views with other sensitive readers.

Hi Mike! I love the characteristic smell of an aircraft!!A combination of cooking smells from the micro -wave ovens masks the hydraulic’leaks’ Hi! (I’m only joking)Having been associated with aircraft in various capacities up front, for many years and now retired, the’odour’of an aircraft to me is’heaven’even now as I fly as a passenger!..Incidentally I note on the opening page an illustration of a magazine entitled ‘Airports’but nowhere can I find it …Can you ,or anyone help me locate a copy??cheers, David

RE: aeroplane smell
It’s not only india’s aircraft that stink but also aircraft that are coming home from India as I recognized several times, getting into the Austrian Airlines A340 coming homebound to Vienna.

RE: aeroplane smell
Well, that´s an interesting observation. In Spain only IB A320 smells (old cupboard) after taking off, having asked what the reason might be I was told that it was probably the air conditioning sytemn. In other airlines, if they don´t stink which has never happened to me, I am amussed by several smells,
parafin burning which it´s great and the diffirent smells of the food when trays are in the oven. I love non western airlines and the smell of curries, and other spices. Of course I hate when the passangers take their shoes off or “non clean” people. It´s great the smell of new planes.

I dunno about other airlines but Air India and Indian Airlines stink in whatever plane of they fly. Sometime fuel..some time some other thing and yes B747 do smell sometimes.

RE: aeroplane smell
Whatever aircraft I get on, I always notice the smell. It could be to do with the seat fabric, stale air or food.
Who knows?

RE: aeroplane smell
I’ve been on quite a few 757’s (mainly British charter carriers) in my time and the majority had a very ‘sweet’ and damp smell, I think it may have been due to the air conditioning packs.
I’ve flew on the 767 (Britannia -200ER) as well and that was the same sort of smell.
The worst I’ve been on in terms of cabin smell was a Ryanair B737-204 flying Dublin to Birmingham, it smelt not too nice at all..

RE: aeroplane smell
Fokker F27s stink of oil before take off. I found that the 767 (not my favourite aircraft) stinks as well.. Sometimes I notice a smell in the cabin when a 747 is taxying for take off, but I haven’t been on one for a couple of years, so they might have improved now (this was Air New Zealand as well!!)
