In case there is anyone haunting this thread with an interest in air displays across the Channel, the following snapshots – I wisely refrain from calling them photographs – may be of interest.
Aerotop takes place biennially and is the display associated with the Salon Provincial de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace at Poitiers. It was favoured by glorious weather – blue skies, sunshine and a gentle breeze – and was absolutlely free. No entry fee, no parking charges, nothing!
I’ll start with some of the rotary participants……………
I hope that you like them.

and all for…….nothing!! Who subsidises it?
I don’t know. I didn’t think to ask and was disinclined to look a gift horse in the mouth! But it’s not uncommon. There was a display earlier in the month at Cholet which was similarly free and gratis. Unfortunately I failed to make myself aware of that until too late. It was only when the Breguet 14 replica lumbered over my house at a few hundred feet, heading NW, did I think to google fête aerien and Cholet. But when I discovered what was on, my wife would not allow me to cancel our pre-existing arrangements for that weekend. I tried not to sulk but……!

Marvellous selection of “photographs!!” of a clearly splendid occasion with a multiplicty of aircraft and all for…….nothing!! Who subsidises it? We use a friends house near Poitiers from time to time so I must make a note to be there in September 2014!!

Some really lovely aircraft there, many of which I have never seen. I really must plan a trip to France for a show.
Thanks for posting, they are definitely photos my friend and nice ones at that.

and a few of formation aerobatics
It was the first time that I had seen Team REVA display – and I hope that it won’t be the last. Close formation flying by two Variezes and one Longeze was highly impressive. But as like, it seems, most of the aerobatic display pilots at Aerotop, they were ex l’Armée de l’Air fighter pilots and/or instructors, that’s hardly surprising! The Cartouche Doré were as good as ever. And the Patrouille de France – well, they’re the best and there’s not much that one can usefully add to that!
