Aeroventure exhibition

I thought that you would be interested in details of the temporary exhibition, Through an Artist’s eyes – A History of Aviation and Motoring, that has just gone on display at AeroVenture – the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, in Doncaster.

The exhibition features images of paintings, showcasing the work of Bradford-born, and once Sheffield-resident, artist Keith Woodcock. Keith has built up an enviable reputation as an aviation and motoring artist and is regarded by many as one of the leading artists in this field.

There are not too many Yorkshiremen that can claim that they have worked for the CIA, but Keith can! He has produced five paintings for ‘The Agency’ that hang at the CIA Headquarters in Langley Virginia, each depicting some aspect the CIA’s aviation activity (remember the film ‘Air America’…?), ranging from the Arctic Circle to the jungles of South East Asia.

Other commissions have been received from around the world from private collectors, Governments, Air Forces, major International Aerospace companies and many, many more…

Nearly everyone in the U.K will have seen some of Keith’s artistry – he has produced designs for Royal Mail stamps and Airfix kits, amongst other commercial work.

The images on display in Doncaster depict a wide variety of scenes, starting with Edwardian flying meetings and running on through both First and Second World Wars to the present day, illustrating the whole history of aviation. There are also examples of Keith’s motoring subjects, which include some of the true classics from the past.

The exhibition will be on show at the air museum until Sunday 18th September, as an addition to its normal exhibits, and details of museum opening times and entry fees are available either from http://www.aeroventure.org.uk or by telephoning 01302 761616.

I’m a member of Aeroventure, but much to my regret I don’t get over to the museum much these days, but what a wonderful endorsement by Keith to have an exhibition there. I hope I can make some time to go & have a look.

Thank you John for “the plug”:):)

P.s. one of my favourite painting of his, is the 616 Sqn Spitfire landing at sunset, however its title escapes me.

Regards Rad
