Yes, it would be preferable for Conc to remain flying!

Basically any museum which guarantees to keep the aircraft in good condition and hopefully airworthy can have one in my opinion.

I think the US should get a Concorde mainly because they were one of the few countries that didn’t completely ban it’s use and without JFK, who knows where it would have flown to ?

I’m still in very much in the anti museum camp just now though. Anyone know what the status of the Virgin bid is at the moment ?

Why the hell shouldn’t the UK get an AF one, and France get a BA one… that would be a good thing, a nice gesture between the two countries. 🙂

T5 I too see where your coming from. I’m still very pissed at BA, the way they acted over theirs going to VIR. Very childish indeed! 😡 Like children with toys really. :p

More than half of the world, wants concorde airbourne, but AF and BA are being babies about it… they made it flop, so just incase someone else does a better job, we best give them to Museums.

I think we should get a petition together… everyone on FLYPAST/AFM/AWMONTHLY forums should sign it and then we send a copy of it to BA and To whom it concerns MP wise…. What do you think of this suggestion?

Cheers all.

I expect the sadest sight we will see is the unconverted BA Concordes being scrapped at Heathrow. Or would they be allowed a one flight permit to a museum somewhere?

I think the BA Concordes should be given to any museums in Britain which are capable of keeping them undercover , after that they should think about other museums , I think the Smithsonian would be a fitting place to put one on display.

With all due respect Michael and Luke, USA isn’t getting Concordes simply because it’s “USA.” I, by no means, think that we are OBLIGATED to receive a Concorde. With all these Concordes retiring and being put into museums, don’t you think it would be just a tad bit appropriate to have just one example in the Air & Space Smithsonian? Correct me if I’m wrong, but last time I checked, that’s a rather prestigious museum when it comes to aeronautics and aviation. The Bell X-1, Spirit of St. Louis, Wright Flyer, etc. are all there. As far as the Concorde being European, yes, it is in fact Euro. However, all these one-offs aside, like Barbados, Singapore, etc; where was ‘regular’ Concorde service flown to, during its lifetime? I believe the answer to that would be JFK. So then why don’t we put one there instead of Washington? Not because Washington ‘used to’ have Concorde service, BECAUSE WASHINGTON IS WHERE THE MUSEUM IS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! What are they going to do, demand it be put right in the middle of JFK, next to the tower or something, just because that’s the airport that saw the most Concorde movements in its history? Gosh, I certainly hope not! Let me just reiterate a point I made when one of you first indicated one example was going to be ‘donated’ to the U.S. EVEN IF one wasn’t donated to the A&S Smithsonian and they were all scattered all over Europe, I’m sure not a single Aviation enthusiast in the U.S. would lose sleep over it.

But there are still BA’s concordes to be allocated. Seems as we already have two in UK museums, where else should they go?

I can see T5’s point.
I kind of felt disapointed when I saw USA on the list
It’s almost like the USA are getting them simply becasue they are the USA and I personally feel that the concordes should be more exclusive to europe.

Luke

Yeah because they still haven’t taken down the Concorde signs in Washington yet, there was a big thing about it in the papers a while back!

If they are dishing out aircraft to the destinations served by the aircraft, why is Barbados not getting one, since BA did operate a once-weekly service to the country?

I think BA and AF have made mistakes between them with regard to Concorde.

Why on earth are 2 aircraft (between the airlines) being given to the United States? I am sounding extremely negative here, but I feel so strongly about it. Considering that less than 20 of the aircraft were made, I think the ones being taken to America could be homed better in their own countries. Let’s be fair, this aircraft was a joint creation between France and the UK. How on earth does the USA come into the equation? Okay, so the aircraft flew to New York, fair enough, but Washington?

I’m confused.

I totally agree with you Steve. I think that Richard Branson would have been able to put them to good use with Virgin Atlantic. I believe that they still have some life left in them and they would suit the Virgin ‘theme’. Just my two cents.
