RE: AFM Forum
As I don’t use the AFM forum much, its persistent failure doesn’t concern me.
But as a curious bugger, who likes to understand how and why things work and don’t work, can anybody explain why the AFM forum crashes so often, if it uses the same operating systems and programs as this and the other two forums, which seem to be able to function well nearly all the time?
I suppose if we knew the answer, the poor old Webmaster could fix it for once and for all, but why one forum and not the others?
If anybody cares to venture an answer, please use the KISS principle for this poor old fart.
Regards
Wombat

RE: AFM Forum
SOC,
“then someone would need to post a message saying the forum broke again. Copying the error message is just that-a reminder.”
I know nothing about the technology side of how the forum operates. I would doubt that the webmaster would need a reminder to show him AFM is down, surely it will be instantaneously obvious the moment he tries to log on.

RE: AFM Forum
I think Elp’s point was that obviously the previous problem has chosen to remanifest itself. If the webmaster is gone for the weekend (which I hope he is, I know I hate working weekends), then someone would need to post a message saying the forum broke again. Copying the error message is just that-a reminder.
I do agree that the webcrew does great work, especially considering all of the problems the forum has been having of late.

RE: AFM Forum
Elp,
Do you really think that replicating the AFM error message everytime it goes down is of any practical use? Or is it just a sly attempt to get people to move over to ACIG?
Someone has already said it will get fixed when it gets fixed and like they said, it is, after all, a free resource. And a damn good one at that. I think it was Ja Worsley (correct me if I’m wrong) who suggested that a ‘crisis’ line was needed to inform the webmaster when one of the forums went down so it could be fixed straight away. It might be annoying, it may be considered a nuisance, but it is hardly a crisis.
The webmaster does a good job here, so I’m sure we shouldn’t begrudge him a weekend off.

RE: AFM Forum
No point complaining too much about it – it’ll be fixed when it gets fixed. Besides, the service the forum provides is free and of a high standard – it’s not like you’re paying for it…
