RE: AFM forum not working again!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-10-02 AT 08:59 AM (GMT)]Kev35,
I do remember very well the previous occasion when Vbulletin was introduced. I was one of the ones who was entirely put off by any such move as the chaos which we had, gave me a lasting impression of the software.

However, what I feel is that maybe we were all too hard on the new discussion board type because of the trouble which unfortunately occured. If this had not occurred do you think we would still be on DCForum? I don’t think so. If the problems such as post count and registration would have been fixed, do you think we would still be on DCForum? No of course not. It’s just a case of first impressions and unfortunately you don’t get to make another one, the case with Vbulletin.

The Webmaster has said they are working to fix the problems and by the assurance we are moving later in the year then the problems must have been fixed?

I think with the current status of the problems with AFM with the bugs, then as I’ve said before, don’t you think if the Webmaster cannot find the problem it would be worth while to have a switch soon? After all it could happen again and as it seems to be.

I see your point that it failed once and we complained, what is to say it won’t happen again? But this is my opinion, which I believe. A new fresh board would be exciting have new added benefits to members and would also rid us of the terrible problems at the moment.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-10-02 AT 11:20 PM (GMT)]The AFM forum has been fixed.

We are aware of the problem plauging the AFM forum and as of yet we are unable to find the cause of this error.

With regards to the upgrade to VB it will be still going ahead with
the upgrade at some point in the year

RE: AFM forum not working again!

Saab,

we must remember that on the previous occasion Vbulletin was introduced the whole forum fell into chaos. The webmaster may have been confident on the 11th of September but that confidence has not been translated into action. It was mooted that there may be a partial transfer but so far this has not happened. We’re having problems with the AFM forum at present, with Vbulletin we ended with an unwieldy and ultimately unworkable registration system and a forum that failed irrevocably. Do you not think it might be a case of ‘better the devil you know’? The other point is that AFm has failed on a weekend. Would it be any different if Vbulletin failed at a weekend as well? The webmaster has to have time off after all.

Perhaps the webmaster could provide us with another update on whether Vbulletin will still replace the well liked and, to me, user friendly, DCforum?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-10-02 AT 08:21 PM (GMT)]Maybe so, but still with date taken into consideration, all I was doing was using the post to clarify my opinion on what I believe should happen. Whether the date was in September or not it does matter, the fact still remains that the webmaster seemed confident that he was going to instate a new forum being VBulletin. However he has not acted upon his statement,
‘The upgrade will occur,’
This could be because of a number of factors including popular opinion.

From my point of view with the current problems occurring, I think that if the Webmaster had still got the changing of the forum type on his mind then I think it would be a perfect time to have a move so long as we had sufficient warning.

RE: AFM forum not working again!

Saab,

With all due respect the webmasters forum update was posted on the 11th septmber with no further information forthcoming since.

And no, you haven’t annoyed me.

RE: AFM forum not working again!

What is to say that would happen this time? The webmaster seems confident that it will not as it says in the forum upgrade message.

We are told that an upgrade is going to occur, what I don’t see the point of is the Webmaster fixing these current problems when a new forum type is apparently going to be implemented? Surely if these problems are reoccurring then it would be of benefit of us and to the WM if a new board was put in place?

I know at first we were all against the move because of the server crash and all the problems which occured, but over the past weeks we all know there have been problems with DCForum and still it is not perfect.

I think as long as the new forums were to have the same features, which we like and we were warned about a change over then a new switch over would be of less hassle and bother?

I’m sure others feel the same way.I don’t claim to be a computer expert but that is what I think and I am entitled to my opinion. After all,can it really be second time unlucky?

I’m sorry if I annoyed you in anyway 🙂

Saab,

“Methinks that the new Vbulletin should be implemented soon.”

You mean the same Vbulletin which was implemented so successfully a few weeks ago?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-10-02 AT 02:42 PM (GMT)]Why is this continuously happening to AFM and FP for that matter?I know there are bugs in the system but I thought the problem was fixed?

Methinks that the new Vbulletin should be implemented soon.
