Rather than further hijack the Zimbabwe thread, Ill finish up my responce here.
That explains it all!? The youth of today who did “NOT” cause the problem but had the forsight to correct the wrongs of the past are now the one’s made to suffer? Thus they become bitter and twisted like you and thus the circle will continue going around? Mate, I never cheated anyone but I was cheated from the land of my birth by fools like you.
I think we both stated out opinions so its up to others to judge which one of us is right. I just want people to step back and look at the overall problem instead of just protect their own interests.
Brad,
I have to disagree with your comments on Zimbabwean farmers. The bulk of the genuine racist and exploitive whites had left the country when it lost the name Rhodesia and became the republic of Zimbabwe. While Mugabe (who, in all honesty, WAS a decent leader at the time) didn´t kick them out directly, non-cooperative Boeren were definately suggested to move if they couldn´t cope with the new situation. They, generally, did. The farmers that did remain obviously didn´t do that just out of altruism, but their contribution to the country of Zimbabwe in an economical and social sense was a positive one. Despite the nasty racist juxtaposition of white farmer/black worker.
Mugabe is no longer the elected leader of Zimbabwe as he has stoped elections and banned his opponants. The actual problem is that he is given respect as a national leader when he is actually a dictator, and an incompetant one at that. Im not as politically correct as I sound, I think that western diplomacy should start taking stand against irresponcible leadership instead of just taking a bussiness as usual diplomacy that hopes that people will work this out on their own.

Squating is actually a legitmate problem in Africa. Why cant anyone look at the larger picture and always just focus on imediate circumstances?
You tell us to look at the larger picture?? Once “YOU” look at the larger picture, then talk. You forget how long ago Rhodesia was,a whole new generation of white folk have entered the “picture” since then, but you still condemn them? You say it is nothing because it was the whites who exploited, so who cares if they get exploited? Yet the Mashona was slaughted and exploit by the Matabele regiments, so why show concern when they in turn get “exploited” by the whites?
It is “fashionable” to blame whites for everything but the truth is that Africa is very “tribal” and only once people address this, then we can move forward. Never mind constantly harping on about what happend in the past, address what is happening now. This includes all the smaller tribes who have no voice, the Asians and those of mixed race etc. A generation of people who you chose to condemn for no valid reason. All Mugabe has done is to confirm that the whites of Rhodesia had valid reason to follow the path that they chose. You forget that Rhodesians had first hand experience of what happend in the Congo, as well as the worlds silence on acts of pure terrorism. Had a Black nation laid to rest those fears maybe history would be different. This is indeed what Zimbabwe originally conveyed to whites in South Africa.
Two wrongs don’t make a right but two Wrights make an aeroplane….. 😀

I may not be African, and I may have only spent a couple of months there (including working in various communities), but the wider picture is that squatting exists for a reason, regardless of the fact it is a problem, it is derived through poverty. Mugabe is not replacing these people’s homes to overcome the problem of squatting, he is just getting rid of the homes and ‘sod the consequences for these people’!
Most of these people have no chocie but to live in squats, they don’t have the money or resources for anything else. They are attracted towards cities such as Harare in order to search for a better life, based on the propect of work…….very similar really to the events in Europe over several hundred years!!
The wider picture is that something has to be done to help the african nations and their people (accepting that corruption of their governments is a major problem). The answer is not to demolish their homes, just because they are unsightly or for any other reason for that matter.
Furthermore we must remember that there are plenty of big posh houses also being bulldozed…..but then maybe you view any house as a legitimate problem in Africa mixtec?

No chance of people wanting to stay in their homes? Anyone here want their home levelled?
