Lots of rumors going round about Buccaneer being next for restor to fly and requests that the comet be next! I would lke to see the Comet done to fly and could be the logistics support aircraft or better yet, they could grab a Britannia and paint her up as RAF and use that! They will need support if they come to North America one year!!

Canberra’s again!
Hi
We have at the Dumfries Aviation Museum, a Canberra nose section PR4 and a failed Indian export, a Complete fuselage with tail feathers. Oh, for a pair of wings, the trouble is, its quite a size to transport.

JB, lovely idea, but in reality who is going to spend that much money on a beautiful aircraft (to do it would be a deeply personal thing i would have thought) only to give it away? still we can all dream, if it means she comes here and flys again, ill donate money towards it 😮

Canberra’s, yes please!
hey LL wouldnt a victor be possible if there were fairly large resources available? and there is always the B.1 at DX if she could be procured 🙂 well wishing really, i know 🙂 i have to say, i really would love to see some more classic helicopters flying again. ie some gnome whilwinds, wessex’s. definitely a couple more canberra’s (if possible) a mosquito would be amazing, what would the cost be to ressurrect a halifax?
just a couple more ideas
🙂
Canberra’s, definately! But please B2s and B6s, all that seem available are PR models and trainers.

Buy a Mosquito from Canada, restore it to airworthy then give it to the BoBMF.:D

How about a deH 86 Express………..? The late viv Bellamy did talk about starting this project.
Does anyone know what happened to the mortal remains of G-ACZP the last extant 86. Yes, know it crashed in Madriid and the wreck moulded away there but what happened to the remains……..???

Mention has been made of adding an airworthy Viscount to the UK. How many and where are any Viscount still in service ? Obviously any still working today will be rather tried, but surely easier to obtain an aircraft type still in working order, with a suitable spares supply than to start from scratch. Other British transports to consider would be the Carvair and Bristol Freighter still around in Canada.

Ollie – None of the wing came back from Portugal to the best of my knowledge. There is of course the Comet replica in the U.S that has been known to fly.

Canopus is not a true Comet, she is a Comrod. We need to plan ahead rather than look behind us though I would love to see a Lightning fly here in the UK. Best someone buys a Tornado/Jaguar/Harrier now, buys spares and paperwork and sit tight for a year or two. 🙂
Surely a Sea Harrier should be a priority, given that it is the last all British fighter and its record in the Falklands.
Sadly the Jaguar and particularly the heroic missions flown by the Tornado in the Gulf will I think be forgotten due to being involved in unfashionalble wars.

don’t forget the other white elephants
Someone should build an exact replica of R100….lol!
What about full size replicas of the Bristol Brabazon and the Saro Princess? They could be called the Jumbo Pair, in more ways than one as they were white elephants.

Ollie – ‘Black Magic’ came back from Portugal with no wing and I don’t believe it has one yet – therefore it’s a while off yet.
By: ollieholmes - 20th November 2007 at 17:48
Only chance of seeing a Comet flying is of the propeller driven variety
Which ones going to be first? G-ACSS is still lurking at the back of the hanger.
Black Magic is making progress but has anyone got any idea how much of the wing they have? I must take a trip up there sometime and see her.

I am a Big fan of the DH Comet also and I did manage to see her on static display in 1997 at Brunty…so I just hope that she will be preserved in some taxi type condition for a few more years to come….add a taxi Viscount to the group and you have a new British pair….
How often is the DH Comet run up these days?

The respar of PA474 was carried out by using spar material left over from the early 1970’s Shackleton respar programme. Anything is possible – however think money first!
And, as we’ve seen over these past few years the resparring of aircraft that size is no easy matter unless a) money is no object or b) you have the facilities of the RAF at your disposal or both. A respar on an aircraft that size is definitely not going to be a cheap job.

Warbird back in the air has to be the Mossy or the Beaufighter, the latter being the prefered here.
Jet fighter I think would have to be the Sea Vixen back in the air.
As for the large stuff, I think the Vulcan is about as good as you can get and nothing will beat it. Although saying that, it would be nice to see AA’s Shack back over here where it belongs and for them to get CAA approval to fly it here. The ground runner will provide a good source of spares for her.
