hi,
here in the UK a few of people are campaigning to see that the age of consent is lowered to the age of 12(!). shocked and surprised im just wondering what everyone on the forum thinks about it? would you support this sort of move or would go against it?
if you are not from the Uk then what is the age of consent in your country?

The word in my area is that a twelve year old recently gave birth and is trying to keep the child; her boyfriend is either thirteen or fourteen and, if the rumours are to be believed, quite the naive innocent. Now, maybe this is good, maybe it is bad, but the police are apparently not interested anymore so does the age of consent matter if both parties are under it? Personally I would feel annoyed if it came down any further, really wonder if it actually shouldn’t be raised (has anyone ever met a sixteen year old kid – not their own – that they would judge as being responsible enough to breed?), not that it matters since the little blighters all seem to be at it before then anyway.

How much impact will this have. Is it a bit like the banning of hand guns where the hardened criminals are going to do it what ever the law says. Even if you can’t do someone for under age sex if this law came in, I’m sure the Police would take a dim view of a 30 year old having sex with a twelve year old & would look to see if assault or similar charges could be brought if a complaint was made, but then again. Hmmm, best leave it as it is at 16.
I wonder if any of our Dutch breatheren, where I believe 12 is the age of consent, would care to comment on any noticable effects.

That is sick
At 12 you are very much a child if the age of concent was lowered to that it would mean if pervs and peodos could legally ruin kids lives its time we started looking after children more there losing there childhood too early as it is,kids are kids not little adults.

Age of consent means NOTHING. Its purpose is not to stop kids having sex – they still do – and does not lock up those who do – it does nothing actually. HOWEVER. Its purpose is to give the police a legal power to defend young children from being manipulated by older people. If it is legal to screw a 12 year old, then who is going to be happy? 12 year olds or Paedophiles? It will happen anyway, but currently you can be nicked for it. It isn’t much of a defence, but it is something. Unfortunately though I believe you have to want to ‘press charges’. Make it an automatic violation enforceable with or without the consent of the ‘victim’.
The last time I wanted it lowered was when I was under it! The bleeding heart liberals just want to destroy the very fabric of our society by granting freedom for everyone. (Now, i’m not anti-homosexuality, and i’m not actually having a go at homosexuals with this next statement.) For however many years in the UK, we have been told that homosexuality is not something bad, that it is natural, that a person cannot choose, and has a right to, his sexuality. By that logic, can it not be argued that a paedophile is only doing what is ‘natural’ to his make up? The sooner the perpetrators of freedom for scum are locked up, the better. Keep it at what it is. (Question, is it the same age for hetero and homosexuality now? It should be IMO, but I can’t recall what has been passed etc).

I believe in making the world safe for our children,
but not our children’s children,
because I don’t think children should be having sex.
Kind of stupid thing you’d expect me to say?
