AGP (Malaga) Baggage Care

When awaiting my return flight to Stansted today in the Gate C zone in Malaga AGP Airport, i was watching the flyGlobespan flight that was on turnaround from Glasgow. The luggage was off loaded and was driving away on unsecure trolleys being dragged at a fast speed by the little tug. Once he was onto the airside road below me a couple of the bags dropped off of the trolley and he carried on driving.

A good 5 minutes went by before someone actually took a look at them, and it was by several other airside vehicals driving around. But, another 10 minutes passed and then an airside ops vechicle (while taking a break from doing numerous ‘follow me’ duties, to lost aircraft) and she collected the bags and i beleive took them to where they should have been.

I was shocked at the ignorance from the driver of the baggage kart, maybe he didnt notice, and maybe not his fault. But several vehicals ignored it, and took a while for something to be done. I think they could have been seen as a security risk and handled with more care, but the member of staff who collected them didnt seem bothered and she threw them into the back of her van!

I stated the possibility it may have been seen as more of a risk, as the other people who approached it didn’t know that it may have dropped off of the baggage truck at first. Untill looking closely they would have seen the attached flight code strip thing, and noticed that it had been on a flight.

It’s a possibility that the bag has been placed there by someone using their airside pass to their advantage. Can’t be too careful nowaday. We have had several newspapers show the slips in security at our airports.

I don’t know about other airports but at LHR and LGW the airport authority rules don’t allow drivers to stop to pick up bags that fall off their trucks or trailers as it causes congestion on the apron. Instead a smaller airport van runs around the picking up the bags and returning them to the appropriate handling agent.

I don’t see how a bag on the apron is any more of a security risk than when it is on the baggage truck as Dave Wilding suggests in his post.

Happens all the time at all airports. Surprised you had not noticed before really.

I hope they handle my bags OK in Malaga tomorrow night.
I saw some bags fall off a trolley in Frankfurt last year but the cart driver picked it up and brushed it down to see if it was OK, I guess.

I saw that happen at MAN once, a bag dropped off a trolley going to a KL F100, and it was wet, very wet, just chucked it down! Someone came along and took over to the F100 after a few mins

I work in DUB and I see this quite alot espeically with bags that have come off aircraft like 737s with dont have containers. So you can imagine the amount of Ryanair bags lying around at peak times. Those containers were an ingenius idea becasue they must have cut down on the number of lost or damaged bags.

The worst thing Ive seen is 2 bags falling off a dolley and getting caught under a wheel and getting dragged up the road.
