A recent article in MotorSport magazine referred to the MV Agusta bikes being an offshoot in 1945 of the “profitable helicopter business”. I suspect this is not correct in 1945, and Wikipaedia refers to the bike business being started to save redundancies in the aviation business.
My question is what did Agusta do before helicopters?

Giovanni Auusta flew his first aircraft in 1907, and beginning in 1923, designed produced and maintained airplanes.
They did not build their first helicopter until 1952 when they took a license to produce the Bell 47.
I don’t have any more information on fixed-wing projects.
I’d guess it’s safe to assume they did subcontract work for the major Italian aircraft makers during the war.
