Has anyone heard a murmour that Air atlantique might be relocating from Coventry to St Mawgan?
Apparently going to move airworthy fleet down and have a static museum there. Seems a strange move and one with some difficulties, but it is meant to be in advanced planning stages. Didnt seem to long ago that we were hearing that the company was in trouble.

Does Mr Collett live in the area?

Is it not possable to bring them to somewhere like Scampton? There is plenty of room there!!!

It is a surprising place to go, some of what has been said makes sense, there is a huge hangar and dispersal available south side, plus soon to be empty three T.1 hangars. Pleasure flights also good idea.
But why move the Shack, we already have one (probably in more original condition) and I hope to god it dosent threaten the future of WL795. Also it does seem along way for transiting to airshows and business etc.
As for the view from outside, it can’t be beaten at the mo, however a substantial 8ft tall security fence is being erected soon.
Does Mr Collett live in the area?
I hear the plan is partly to help the new civil airport, as it seems unlikely to be very succesful by itself, when the RAF leave next summer.

I thought that the flights too and from airshows were a major part of classic flights business? I would have thought that a move to St Mawgan would have a negative impact on this. Surly it needs to be a more central location. I appreciate that aircraft could be ferried to an airport from which they could take passengers, but this will all add to the costs…

There was an article in the local rag about mid april about this move. It’s definitly going ahead as Mike Collet is very keen on a living museum, last that was heard is that the hunt is still on for a suitable location but if the shack is being moved to St Mawgan I’d say the hunt has found what it was looking for! The article went on to say that the Classic flight engineering base would remain at Coventry for the ‘Forseable future’

Rumour and speculation as been rife for a while around locations for the
Classic flight etc. St Mawgan speculation as been more promising than any of the other’s.
St Mawgan could be the best place with pleasure flights around the west coast and take in some Holiday public tours . some of the channel islands flights also.
Whatever happens it will be a sad day for Coventry area i will miss the sight and sounds over my rooftop that’s for sure. but end of the day what ever keeps the flight going is got to be for the best, location doe’s not matter
better viewing at St Mawgan also from the outside 😉

As Roger has said this move has been hinted at before. I get the impression that Mike would like to move the flight to a new location that would have sufficient space to allow for a museum facility. Like most aspirations of this sort financing as well as location will be high on the agenda.
Whatever Mike’s detailed plans are, I know that his wish has always been to keep the classic flight together, I wish him well in that enterprise!

Had read that the Shackleton at Coventry might be dismantled and moved to St. Mawgan but surely not the whole of the Classic Flight?
When it has been discussed previously about CF relocating elsewhere from Coventry the opinion has been expressed about somewhere “central” being of some importance due to ‘positioning’ considerations.

It would shorten Mike Collett’s commute.
