Air Baltic safe?

As I paranoid flier, I usually take care in the airlines I fly with. My office booked me ticket for my business trip to Scandinavia. All reputed airlines I said.

So, Iberia to Stockholm (fithy airline but safe), and from Turku to Riga, and back to Barcelona SAS, with a Freakair (opps Sorry Clickair) to Santiago. Well I found that from Turku to Copenhague and then to Riga it´s a Dash from SAS, and then a B737-500. And in little small letters “operated by Air Baltic) as well as the Riga Barcelona segment. And I am not amused. I am not telling this airline isn´t unsafe, since it´s supposed to be managed and supervised by SAS and has the JAROPS certificate.

But still I am a bit concerned. Do you have any information about these guys?. Has anyone flown with them?. I don´t really trust them. Well, I don´t normally trust any airline 🙂

I was really impressed with Aer Lingus last april. Lovely airline, and really groove livery. They were so happy with the SCQ flights that they are resuming the service again in march and definite now. Great news for us.

Only a discontinuation from Oct-march. It seems thats the normal procedure for all new destinations

Alot of BT 737s are ex EI machines are are maintained in DUB along with many other major airlines like SK, VS and GF etc. BT are just as safe as any other airline and I think youll be quite impressed with them.

Thanks a lot. Has anyone flown with them?

One and a half million people did last year!:D Maybe none of them are members of this forum? The parent company is SAS.

You are not really reassuring Keltic, are you :diablo:

He is big enough to take it. As I think he is flying on an expense account, I don’t know why he is considering lo-co. Anyway, just an idle observation that ‘new’ doesn’t necessarily equate with ‘safe’!:D

I would have no hesitation flying Air Baltic. Western equipment and in a lot of cases, western pilots. I believe they are part owned by SAS or Finnair or some other such company. It is not as if you are going to find youself on a 40 year old Antonov 😎

I know what you mean, In regards to Ryanair, I think the age of the aircraft always provides a bit of confidence. As we know it is down to the pilots / crew to ensure a safe flight but when flying on something a little newer than the rest it always helps.

Rick

Don’t forget that three 738’s have been lost to date!:D

Anyway other option was Ryanair. I wonder why I feel safer with Ryanair. Funny isn´t it?
