hey
im looking to buy a small airband scanner so i can listen to ATC when im at or near airports and airfields, and im looking to spend no more than £70. I dont know much about such things, but i have seen the ‘Maycom AR108’ mentioned on the forum in the past.
does anyone have the scanner – is it any good or can anyone reccommend anything similar?
thanks

I have this scanner, if you are fairly close to an airport they are great, if you are “below” line of sight then you may have reception problems but on the whole it is a great little scanner, you can also pick up overhead traffic too

I have the Maycom AR108, it’s great! Bought it 4 years ago and its still working and sounding fine, plus the real plus point is the size – it’s tiny – ideal for the airport as you can keep easily in your pocket.
I would go for that one, but there are loads around, so have a look on the various websites and pick one which suits you best – obviously the more expensive you go the better.

I don’t have that specific one that you mention, but I have the ‘Uniden-Bearcat UBC105XLT’ which is around £70. Does just what I want, of course, but there’s probably something less expensive around. Obviously you pay for quality (that’s the theory anyway:))
