Air Berlin EDI – HAJ ???

Hi folks,

I’ve been trying to find the cheapest most convenient flights I can to visit my Grandmother in June.
She lives 30 minutes drive from Hanover (HAJ) so ideally flying there would be the most convenient.
As I’m close to EDI, flying from there is the most convenient also.

So after looking around I took a stab at Airberlin. Their route map clearly shows HAJ as a destination from EDI. I know this as if I chose any other Airport, the destinations possible change.

However, regardless what dates I choose, the system always returns a “No connection found” error, as in no route connection. I can book any other departure and arrival routes, so I know it’s not a server issue.

Long story short: Does anyone have any idea if the EDI-HAJ route is real and from what dates and frequency?

Go to the main page. you get a map where you can choose your departure airport, the destinations served then light up. HAJ lights up when you click on EDI.

I’ve since learned it is a codeshare with BA, as Doors4 suggested.
Strange though, as BA will not allow me to book EDI-HAJ either.
What’s the point of a codeshare if you can’t book on the one single system but need to book individual flights on individual systems?!

Well, They’ve had their chance.

FR EDI-BRE it is then!

The online flight schedule at airberlin does not mention the EDI-HAJ route. It only mentions EDI to various Austrian destinations, presumably using Niki instead of Air Berlin proper.

They are probably showing EDI HAJ as a route because they codeshare heavily with BA now and can now in theory offer EDI connections.

A look at the Oneworld timetable for various random dates in the summer show EDI LHR STR HAJ or EDI LGW NUE HAJ on various AB/BA codeshare flights, mostly involving a nightstop along the way. I can’t imagine they sell too many of those tickets.

Not much help to your question, but years ago I flew Germanwings from Edinburgh to Berlin, then got the train to Hannover (which was a couple of hours).

Or, if they still do it, you could go bmi from EDI-LHR then bmi regional from LHR-HAJ?

Both ways are much longer than EDI-HAJ direct though!
