Air Berlin, flydba, bmi and Volareweb news

Air Berlin have given details about there new flights. New flights from London Stansted are to:

Dusseldorf – Monchengladbach – Daily
Karlshrue/Baden-Baden – Daily

These will join

Dortmund – Twice Daily
Berlin – Tegel – Twice Daily
Munster/Osnabruck – Daily
Paderborn/Lippstadt – Twice Daily
Nuremburg – Twice Daily
Hamburg – Twice Daily
Hannover – Daily

bringing the total of 9 German airports served by Air Berlin to London Satnsted. Air Berlin is also adding new flights from:

Dusseldorf – Monchengladbach – Milan, Vienna and Zurich
Berlin – Tegel – Zurich, Rome, Vienna
Hamburg – Vienna
Stuttgart – Palma de Mallorca
Munich – Alicante, Malaga, Ibiza
Frankfurt – Alicante, Malaga, Ibiza

These will join the other City Shuttle Services:

Dusseldorf International – Barcelona
Munster/Osnabruck – Milan, Rome
Dortmund – Milan,Vienna
Rome Ciampino – Milan Bergamo

flydba is to start new services on 30th March 2003 from Nice to:

Berlin – Tegel
Stuttgart
Hamburg

flydba mainly operate German domestic flights and maybe taken over by easyJet.

flydba,Lufthansa,Hapag Lloyd Express and Germanwings all compete on the Berlin-Tegel to Cologne/Bonn route with about 26 flights a day altogether – must be 1 profitable route!!!!

With Hapag Lloyd Express and Germanwings announcing their growth, the German market is rapidly expanding!!!!

bmi is to start new services from:

London Heathrow – Alicante and Venice – daily A320 flights, only non-stop flights from Heathrow to these cities

Norwich – Aberdeen – 4 Daily Embraer 135 jets (competing with Eastern Airways!)

Volare is to launch a low-cost Italian airline called Volareweb.com. It will operate with a fleet of Airbus A320’S from Milan Malpensa and possibly Florence to destinations in Europe. An announcement is due shortly. (Maybe to compete with Ryanair?)

Ah right thanks. I suppose flying from Moenchengladbach does also prevent the delays and problems that are customary to a larger airport (hence the name Dusseldorf Express). Moreover, it does mean Air Berlin can utilise the Belgian and Dutch market more from this point, taking enthuses away from Cologne and Bonn.

Moenchengladbach is a decent sized town as of itself… probably best compared to EMA in Britain, with both BHX and MAN reasonanbly close to…

Moenchengladbach is also quite close to CGN, as well as DUS.

Monchengladbach or Dusseldorf Express airport, surprises me. It doesn’t seem an airport where the German operaters woulds be interested in operating to. Just seems a bit strange compared to Dusseldorf.
I could understand it if German locos were strict on landing fees like Ryanair, but they are not and do operate to major airports.
So what are the benefits of Monchengladbach?
