R 222 is Argenitinian- i do not think it can be in sweden? But….

From the AB-file:

S31/9 CofA 3356 issued 12.2.32 to Aerofotos Ltd, Argentina and dd to
Comper agent, Cyril Taylor of Aerofotos, based Mendoza. Regd
R222 1.32. Flown over Andes by Cyril H Taylor [of Aerofotos];
dep Mendoza 9.3.32 for Santiago, Chile but forced landed Nogales,
55 km NE of Valparaiso and damaged propeller taxying; return
flight 25.3.32. Based at Buenos Aires [5.33]. Regd to Miss Inga
Karim Ahlstrom de Atencio. To Stockholm, Sweden ’36 with owner
Miss Inga Ahlstrom [unconfirmed]; later returning to Argentina.

Regd LV-FBA 10.11.37 to same owner [still regd 31.12.38]. Later
found and bought by Cyril Taylor and displayed [10.72] Buenos
Aires Expo. Donated [3.76] to Buenos Aires Aeroparque Museum.

I’d say now confirmed 🙂

SEF………..

Nice photo of 222 in Sweden.

Now guys, please shuffle through your box(es) of Comper Swift photos. Does anyone have a photo of either or both VP-KAV or VR-TAF. Any help gratefully received.

Hello Scion

re the finish on the Comet, all I have read about them being built in 1934 says that dehaviilands spent a lot of time polishing the aeroplanes to get as smooth and shiny finish as possible to try and get as much speed as possible. the standard fabric finish at the time was coloured Butyrate dope which though not super gloss can be poished but is definately not a matt finish.

hope this is of interest.

Dear Avion ancien,

That is the D H Comet reproduction based in California. A very good reproduction though there is some debate if or not the finish should be as glossy as is now or should be more matt as was initially. A small point I confess given the work to build it.

The swift however is totally origional with the origional engine and minor modifications placed on it throughout its long and varied life.

Most Swift fans know it’s history but if you want any details such as it’s life with an American band leader let me know.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. Was hoping the title was a spelling error and the word should be ‘FLIES’! 😀

Not a spelling mistake, files there are……….!!!

Might read better with a hyphen, thus, Air Britain files: The Comper Swift.
