Air Canada's Boeing 777 on final approach

Okay, deceptive Globe and Mail headline, but it’s getting close…

Globe and Mail Update

MONTREAL — Air Canada takes delivery of the first of 17 Boeing 777s on Friday, opening the way for a beefed-up international schedule.

Air Canada chief executive officer Montie Brewer said Tuesday that the Montreal-based airline will have possession of the aircraft in Seattle. Then the plane will land on Saturday in Montreal, where there will be an “employee celebration” that will both mark the 777’s arrival and the carrier’s 70th anniversary.

The first Boeing 777 is a “333ER” version that seats 349 people, including 42 in the executive-class cabin. It will make its first commercial flight in April from Toronto to London’s Heathrow Airport.

By the end of this year, Air Canada will take delivery of another seven Boeing 777s, followed by nine more in 2008.

The Boeing 777-333ER and another version, the 270-seat 233LR, will be deployed to a variety of foreign destinations.

In June, service is slated for Toronto-Frankfurt and Toronto-Tokyo; in July, Vancouver-Tokyo; in August, Toronto-Hong Kong; and in December, Vancouver to Sydney, Australia.

The planes will feature lie-flat seats in executive class and new in-flight entertainment systems for each passenger throughout the cabin, Mr. Brewer said at Air Canada’s annual meeting in Montreal on Tuesday.

ACE owns 75 per cent of Air Canada.

The livery is a stroke of genius. Much like the Love or Hate Sibir/S8 livery.

Why is it genius?

Simple… you instantly recognise it

I must confess, I think the 777-300ER looks good in Air Canada colours, but the -200LR is going to look awesome.

They’ll look exactly the same only one aircraft is a bit shorter than the other

I think the tail design is fantastic. Very modern and they achieved the idea of a mapleleaf falling to the ground. The body is a bit different, I agree, but as was previously stated, it’s a departure from white, and still enables them to keep some costs under control (assuming).

Regardless, bring on the 777

It may be a poor choice in colour to some (I don’t mind it now), but it breaks the trend of flag carriers’ plain white schemes! Lufthansa, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Quantas, Air France, Finnair, JAL…etc, you get my point!

well, to be honest,
I think AC has one of the most unimaginative color schemes in the airline environment.
Baby sleep suit blue,
their name,
and our maple leaf.
Wow. That must have taken a marketing genious!

These days, the airlines realise their aircraft are an advertising tool, and are used accordingly, unfortunately, AC, like much of their operation is about 30 years behind!
hence the “lets get back to our roots scheme”

motto of AC,
“were not happy unless your not happy”

ya, I know, spoken like a true Canadian!
