Air Forces of Sub-Saharan Africa

Hello,

I’m new to posting on this forum, though I have lurked here quite a while (after happening on a copy of Air Forces Monthly in my university library!)

I have a humble question: are there any African countries (“middle-eastern”-African countries not included) that have strong, unique air forces, or have interesting stories about them?

I know south Africa has a well developed aeronautics industry that developed variations of the Mirage, but other than that, how does the state of African air forces stand?
