Air France Concordes flying to final homes

(PARIS) One of Air France’s Concordes, now out of commercial service, took off from Paris yesterday for its final flight to Washington where it will be placed on display in a national museum, the airline announced.

Final take-off: Air France’s four Concordes wil fly to different final destinations this month
The Concorde F-BVFA, the French carrier’s oldest supersonic jet first used for commercial flights in January 1976, left Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris yesterday for Washington.

Its new home will be the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in the US capital.

A second Air France Concorde will take off on Saturday, making a supersonic loop before returning to the French air and space museum north of Paris.

On June 24, a third jet will depart for Germany, where it will be on display at the Technik Museum Sinsheim.

A fourth Concorde given to European aircraft manufacturer Airbus will fly to the southwestern French city of Toulouse on June 27. Air France’s last Concorde will be put on display at Charles de Gaulle airport.

What an absolute shame to see these beautiful aircraft put to pasture with about twenty years left in their airframes
