Air France to operate LHR-LAX

No, you’re not seeing things (and I have not had a drink of anything other than coffee today!). Delta and Air France have signed a joint venture – in terms of LHR operations, tt goes something like:

2 DL 767s JFK-LHR
1 DL 767 ATL-LHR
1 AF 777 LHR-LAX

DL also announced JFK-LYS.

By return, BA have said that CDG-JFK will be opened by themselves.

I think that the Atlantic is going to become a slugfest over the next few years. This open skies agreement completely opens up opportunities for airlines and city pairs. Especially for Charter and no frills carriers. Think of how many more windows they now have to fly. I’m sure some consolidation will enventually occur, but there will be a lot of competition in the offing.

Also, alliances and mergers will become increasingly important as the big carriers on both sides of the pond use their size to leverage capacity and dominance.

I was told about this about a week ago by a friend of mine, but i thought nothing of it and thought it was a load of rubbish. But wow. Nice news. Im guessing then the T7 will route CDG-LHR-LAX-LHR-CDG. Which means we could get a different one every day.

As someone said this is going to start becoming common moves by airlines. A couple of friends of mine think that KLM will start using 747s on there AMS leg and reduce frequency to sell the slots. They think the same with LH and IB.

But again, nice news. Looking forward to seeing these T7s:p

I think we’ll see quite a lot of this kind of thing over the next few years, most of which I suspect will come and go quickly, some of which will work.

I know for example that VS are looking at A319’s all J Class on various routes from mainland Europe, and BA are looking at 3 class (J, W and M) B757’s from various European cities to JFK operated by a new JFK crew base.

Personally I think this is a stupid idea on behalf of AF!

They should stick with using their LHR slots for CDG feed or else give it to DL for an extra LHR-ATL.

This wont last very long.
