Air Gunner

Just received this email can anyone help with info on this chap?

Hello my name is Sandra Finn( nee Phryce -Jones)

my father was WO ACE/AIR GUNNER Philipe Phryce- Jones 1819832

My dad always told me he flew Spitfires among other planes ,

He was a warrant officer and was ,stationed all over the world in WW11,

He met my mother while stationed in Eastleigh East Africa.

I was wondering I cannot find any records on any site ,I have looked in many

on the web none seem to hold my father’s name .

I have obtained 2 of his medals from the MOD Medal Officer

In Gloucester his Defence Medal and his War Medal, plus his Warrant.

I would so appreciate any contact with anyone ,whom might have flown with him,his squadrons were…. M.E.Command 18th ,2495 Stn Eastleigh

his release was class A this release I am unsure of what it means ,so even this clarification would be so helpful .

My son whom never had the privilege of meeting his grandpa .is whom I am finding out all I can for him,

so as to know what the war was and it affect on his grandpas life.

( my father died of complications of stress to the heart attributed to the war effort )

I would be very grateful for any help you might give me in my quest .

I have attached a picture of my Dad in his flying gear think it is a beauty!

Best regards

Sandra Finn

Are there any other photo’s of this gent in uniform? One showing a Brevet would be ideal. Just the two medals from the medal office rings a discordant note as does the Air Gunner flying Spitfires story. The absence of the 1939 – 1945 Star might indicate that he had not completed the six months service required before the ending of the war on 15th August 1945.

Could do with a bit more to go on really.

Sandra,
The copy of the service record is invaluable, however, the average waiting time at the present is 8 months for delivery.

But worth the wait.

First port of call as a relative is to get his service records, you are entitled to these.

here is the contact point

RAF Disclosures
Room 221B, Trenchard Hall
RAF Cranwell
SLEAFORD
Lincs NG34 8HB

Costs £30, but worth every penny to own a top quality colour copy of the actual record
