Air International & Flypast

I was in the big bookstore here in town yesterday and I noticed that in addition to Airliner World and AFM (the only two Key Publshing mags we would get) were both Flypast and Air International. I bought my first issue of Air International and I haven’t had a chance to really look at it, but it looks neat. Flypast was just way too expensive so I didn’t buy it. Anyway, I’m wondering why we are just now receiving these two magazines, when the other two (AW & AFM) we’ve gotten for a long time. Could anyone explain to me why this has happened? Not that I’m complaining.

“‘wheather bomb'”

Yeah… our News Media are full of Sh!t.
Another favourite of theirs is if a sports team has won something three times in a row they like to call it a threepeat instead of what it really is which is of course a repeat…. P!sses me off what they do to the language… but they never get the pronounciation of Maori words wrong…

Books have always been quite expensive here in NZ… I pay $24-$30 for most of the computer mags I buy (though I usually buy the more expensive DVD issues cause they have more stuff on the disk which is mostly why I buy them…). Of course the Australian PC mags are $9-$12 dollars and often have similar content to the British and American Mags. Often they are better in that they include lots of LOTR and other local stuff, like interviews with people like Russell Crowe and Peter Jackson.

RE: Air International & Flypast

Garry,

Just got back from NZ today. Had a look at the magazines while I was in Napier, and those prices are a riot!! I think the Fine Scale Modeller magazone was $17. God help someone like myself who buy quite a few of them every month. By the way, great trip, and apart from the ‘wheather bomb’ further north on the day we flew in and the day after, the weather was ok, but cold.

Regards, Glenn.

RE: Air International & Flypast

“I don’t think we even get Air Enthusiast. AFM, AI, and AW are both $7.95 US here while Flypast was in a league of its own at a whopping $9.95. “

At the moment the NZ dollar is worth around 50 US cents… AFM and AirInt are about $15 NZ dollars or about $7.50 US. Air Enthusiast is close to $30 NZ which I guess would make it about $15 US dollars.
It is not a stapled magazine though… it is bound and there are more articles and less advertising from memory… (I only buy it if there is an article of interest…)

RE: Air International & Flypast

Well if you choose to live so far from the rest of civilisation you have to take what crumbs you are thrown… no, wait, that is us here in NZ.
Are you sure you mean Flypast… it was always Air Enthusiast that was expensive here… though I did try to buy the issues about old soviet bomber projects… 🙂
