Just a weird thought, but I am wondering if there was ever any interest in an air-lauched version of the Army TACMS missile? It would be a heck of a fast missile, with good range (300km+), and it is generally speaking the right sort of size for air-launch. No idea how practical it would be, but it might have been a good option, especially after TSSAM was canned – it could even have yielded a tri-service missile, with air-launched, ground-launched, and ship launched variants!
Any thoughts?

I was always wondered about the ship launched variant. especially for lateral low cost/displacement ships that can’t use Tomahawks.

I seem to recall that an airlaunched version of ATACMS was a candidate for the UK cruise missile requirement that resulted in StormShadow.

Don’t know if they’ve ever considered it (air-launched ATACMS that is) but to give you an idea of how powerful it’s motor is they’re going to use it to boost the X-51 up to Mach 4.5
