Air Leasing at Sywell…

hi morning,
I was at Aero-Expo on Sat. and saw the new Air Leasing hangar belonging to Richard Grace, does anyone know of its contents? I know of ML407 which was seen in it and PP972 landed during the show, but what else lives there…

regards,
jack…

Thanks for the reply TallyHo!
I had looked it up in the book in the meanwhile. No doubt it will be stunning.
I’ve spent many an hour gawking at the Seafire XV in Calgary as well as the one that used to belong to CWH.
Something about those short nose Griffons with a four blade prop that just so works for me.

Love the paint scheme on the fury. Looks great!

Is G-FXII EN224?

Andy

It is indeed. Very much looking forward to seeing this one in the air.

Thank you. Bit of a change from the Pitts but I guess ML 407 helps?

Read on and you will see that the indicated date of issue for the CAA permit under which it will fly is 19/7

Ah, thanks I clearly didn’t look at that field – thanks for the clarification, now I understand.

hi,
surprised that a certain editor of a well known and loved magazine as not popped up to inform us mere mortals that the current edition has a article on PP972…

As this was last registered in Australia surely it will not be a permit renewal but a new application? The date you refer to is in a field on the CAA site that concerns a review of an application concerning the markings to be carried – how does that relate to a due date for permit?

What G-INFO does suggest is that the Permit is due to be renewed on 19th July. Let’s hope some strings can be pulled for an earlier release.

Having read all the comments about the Seafury, why do you all assume that it is going to be based at Sywell, check out G-INFO to see where the new owners come from, and see which airfield you come up with, that has already got warbirds
operating from, which is close by.

That Sea Fury is a thing of beauty. As a lad my interest in aviation was stirred by my Dad’s vast collection of 40’s Flight magazines (wish I still had them!) and she is a perfect rendition of one of the rare colour photographs in Flight of the 40’s. Anyone know who the Flight photographers were at the time? Charles E Brown can’t have taken them all!

Seen on another forum..

Both
G-AWHC/N1109G and G-AWHM/N90604/marked 7+ were in the hangar, along with Spitfire G-FXII in primer, G-AXNW Stampe, G-PIII & G-IIIP Pitts, G-CBEL/SR661 Sea Fury, G-BUAR/PP972 Seafire and G-BLXT SE.5A (behind the Stampe). Outside was G-LFIX/ML407 Spitfire and G-TXAS Ce-A150L. +G-AVOU SE.5 replica on rebuild somewhere local..

Its a real credit to the AL boys that in three weeks they have completely reassembled and repainted her – Steve A as ever did a spot on job with the paint, no doubt helped by the fact there are some super colour photos of the prototype at Farnborough (IIRC) in July 45.

I knew the plan was to get her ready for Legends, by jove they’ve nearly done it – judging by the cars still parked outside Graceland late into the evening, the boys have been putting the hours in!

It is of course bittersweet having the sound of a Centaurus back at Sywell. Has it really been 15 years. Blue skies.

Am I missing something? What has the Royal Horticultural Society got to do with this?
