RE: Malta-off topic

The weather in Malta is usually very warm at this time of year.
Somebody I know was on a cruise around the med and left Malta a few days ago, it was the warmest day of the lot, you should have no problems with the weather.

RE: Malta-off topic

Mosta Dome is pretty good, a bomb fell through the roof during the war when it was packed with people, but it never exploded. Its on display there now.
Theres also the museum which is near Valletta thats pretty good, I was very young when I last went a few years ago so I don’t remember too much.
Mdina is good and while your there visit ‘The Arches’ restaurant in Mellieha, the best restaurant I’ve been to.

On the subject of beaches, theres one called pretty bay near Birzebbuga (head for Malta Freeport) which is very nice and its also close to the airport. You get the Air Malta’s coming in low over there all day.

RE: Air Malta good or bad?

I flew on an Air Malta B737-300 LGW-MLA-LGW in July 1999. I got the emergency exit seats both ways. They seem to offer sufficient legroom for the flight’s duration. The aircraft are very clean and presentable. They offer a free copy of the Maltese national newspaper on the way to the UK and also offer a choice of meal. They dish out free drinks from the bar and the flights were punctual. Malta airport is very small. You have to fill in an arrival and departures card when you enter and leave Malta for Customs purposes. You have to wait about 15 minutes in a queue on arrival at passport control, as they give your passport and arrivals card a good look over (Good thing). You get a stamp in your passport too!

RE: Air Malta good or bad?

I live in Malta so I am in a position to comment as I have flown Air Malta a number of times and use the airport here frequently.
Malta International Airport is modern, clean and efficient and has a good selection of shops. It is also quite attractive to look at and I cannot say that I have ever had a bad experience with it as the staff there tend to be quite helpful.
As for Air Malta, well I cannot say that it is a brilliant airline, but it is not bad either. The planes are modern, clean and boast an excellent safety record, but the seats are not particularly comfy, the food may be mediocre or excellent, depending on how lucky you are on the day, and the service in general is fair. The cabin staff need to learn how to smile a little more.Since the planes are narrow bodied, there is no entertainment. All in all, Air Malta is a respectable airline for a tiny country like Malta, and I cannot say I have had any bad experiences on it, but it is not anything so exceptional either.
Hope I have helped you… and make sure you have a great stay in Malta

RE: Air Malta good or bad?

I have flown Air Malta quite a number of times in the past and I found them to be quite good. They operate a mixed fleet of B737s and A320s. Never flown on their B733, but on their B732 and A320 and always had quite a pleasant flight.

With regards to Luqa, yep, the terminal has been opened in the 1990s and is very modern. Also has a good viewing gallery (not open air) overlooking the main apron and with a good view of aircraft taking off from the longer runway.

Enjoy your flight and have a great time in Malta!

RE: Air Malta good or bad?

I used to fly with Air Malta quite a lot a few years ago. They are a reasonable airline, I’ve never been delayed more than 20 minutes and there aircraft seem well looked after, there was always one in the hangar when we taxied out to the runway. There was very little entertainment back then (don’t know whether it has changed) but above all for a 3 hour flight its OK.

Malta airport is one of the best in the holiday destinations. Was only built in the early 90’s I think so its very modern and is fully air conditioned. Only airport I know where you can buy duty free on entering the country.

RE: Air Malta good or bad?

…Well hardly any of their flights link up, so it’s either an overnight at Luqa or a long wait. I flew with them in 1988 on a really old B737 (they still had B720’s too then!) and they were ok, if not a little bit ‘povvy’. Regards Luqa itself, it’s just like any other Meditereanean airport… fine, but I would’nt like my plane to be in an incident there!!!!!!!!

Paul.
