Air Ministry Dump excavation/Hawker Typhoon

Hi all,

In the other magazine  , I once read an article about the discovery and recovery of dumped Hawker Typhoon sections from an Air Ministry dump during the late eighties, early nineties.

I presume this is the dump near South Cerney, Gloucestershire, of which one firewall is now on e-bay (again). I remember also seing a photo showing some cockpit items which were in good condition and were suitable for static restorations.

Who did the investigation and what exactly was recovered, there were also rumours that Sabres had been dumped nearby.

Any additional info?

Cheers

Cees,

Thanks for the interest but bulkhead is now sold.

If you’d like to know more about the parts recovered and current whereabouts, please PM or mail me…..

A gentleman called Ron Murphy organised the dig which cost a large sum of money. There were a number of control column’s recovered, some gun turrets
and a lot of Typhoon firewalls amongst other items. None of it ‘gold dust’ but lots of useful parts.
