Air Ministry Electrical Temp. Senders

Hi
Does anyone have, or know of, a relaible source of these platinum probes and connectors please?
They were used extensively during and after WW2 on most types.
The probe or bulb is 6A/1775 and the connector 6A/1755

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete

That’s a connector for the armourment system – it’s the bit that stays in the aircraft. The Whitley carried 16 of them. I have a lot already – gave up keeping track a while ago. Sometimes it’s easy to drown in the details :p

Hi Pete

The nuts are sometimes confused with 6A/1755 as they are sometimes embossed with that Sec/Ref No, in fact the nuts don’t have a Sec/Ref No being 6A/NIV (Not In Vocab).

The socket assy is 6A/1755 and are used with a variety of bulbs for temp sensing.

I’ll send you an e-mail with what I have in stock in the way of plugs and temp bulbs.

Attached is an extract from AP1086 Sect 6A to AL/18

Dave

Many thanks Dave.
If you don`t have my e-mail address it is:

Purely as an aside, as you seem to be quite knowlegable on AM ref`s, I have attached acouple of pics of a socket which has been lying around here for a while. I assume it goes on a radio somewhere. Like much of this stuff, it must have cost a lot to make! I am sure someone somewhere has a piece of equipment or a cockpit missing this part.

We have some NOS examples. How many do you need?

George

Hi George

About 8 would keep us going for quite a while.
I`ll send you a PM.

Bograt, I will contact them and see if they can check what it is they have. The plug assembly does consist of a bakelite sleeve nut and other parts.

Many Thanks

Pete

Skytrade have a load of 6A/1755’s listed, Pete, but they only call it a ‘nut’ so whether it has all you need may be doubtful. Nothing on the bulbs. Maybe Barry Parkhouse?

I can not say where to get them from but I have them listed as being accessories to:

THERMOMETER, radiator, electrical, Mark 2A
THERMOMETER, bomb bay temperature

6A/1775 Bulb, Mark 3A
6A/1755 Plug
