Air Mobility Command Museum, Dover DE

Evening all,

I had the chance to visit this excellent museum over the weekend. Placed at the end of the main runway the collection is varied, there is an indoor display with a B-17 and a C-47. Very friendly volunteers who informed me that they will get the worlds first C-5 Galaxy on display at a museum in April next year so I will be back for that!

Anyway here are some pictures I have some more if you want them put in a request!

Wow! Looks like quite a bit has changed since I stopped in 15 months ago.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Hopefully I can get back that way again one day.

Stuart, sorry no it was so dark inside I just didn’t even think. The museum guide showed me the central mono rail system that was used to hang cargo and then drop through a door near the front. The cockpit was covered in plastic. I will be back in the summer so I promise to get some internals then. There is an external shot on a previous post of mine

It’s a great collection and the bonus is the opportunity to board some of the aircraft if volunteers are available to facilitate this. On a visit earlier this year we got on board the KC-97, C-124, C-133 and Super Constellation – a fascinating and virtually unique opportunity!

@pully113: Excellent pictures of this interesting museum (much better than my own – see below) – thanks for sharing!

For those of you who would like to see more pictures of the same collection taken in the summer of 2006, go to: http://www.flugzeugforum.de/air-mobility-command-museum-dover-de-usa-72087.html

Greetings from Leverkusen,
Thomas

P.S. By the way – more pictures are highly welcome…
