Airbus A320 arrives + two new routes!

Air Newcastle, the lowcost airline for the north east, this evening announces the arrival of the Airbus A320-200 to fleet, in preparation to fly to two brand-new destinations from Newcastle International Airport tomorrow morning. Seating 179 passengers in an all economy layout the new Airbus is anticipated to fly to some of the longer routes in the Air Newcastle network, making better use of the wider cabin for maximum passenger comfort. The aircraft is sourced from an unknown leasing company and will remain in the short term fleet indefinitely.

From Saturday 26th August, Air Newcastle crews can fly the new aircraft from Newcastle to Lisbon the European seafood capital and Marrakech, the city for sun obcessed culture vultures – both brand new destinations from the regions airport. The airline will fly to both destinations daily from Newcastle for the rest of the summer with specific flight information available to view on the destinations page of the company website.

“We chose the A320 for very clear reasons” commented Lee Lambert, General Manager this evening. “The first was because of pilot demand – they have told us what they want and we have delivered it.” The second he went on to comment “was as a direct result of meeting customer demand. Lisbon and Marrakech have proved very popular destinations for other virtual airlines operating from other airports, we feel its now our turn to cash in and the A320 suits these longer routes perfectly.”

The airline admits there will be a number of operational differences as a result of operating both Airbus and Boeing models of similar size, economics and range but is confident these will be ironed out within the first few days of flying. “We anticipate the cost differences to be marginal” Lambert went on to say “but we’ll keep our fingers crossed”.

Pilots flying Airbus A320 flights to Lisbon and Marrakech during the next week will earn double flying hours as a bonus. The airline is also celebrating its most active day this week, a whopping ten flights were flown on Friday to and from a variety of destinations in the network.

As always, comments are welcome!

Air Newcastle is a virtual airline operating flights from Newcastle International Airport using Airbus A320 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Amsterdam, Bergen, Brussels, Dublin, Ibiza, Jerez, Lisbon, London Gatwick, Marrakech, Palma and Prague airports. http://www.airnewcastle.com
