Air Scotland (Electra) planes impounded at GLA

Electra’s two 757’s have been impounded at GLA by BAA in a dispute over unpaid landing fees by the owners Electra. They had been painted in Air Scotland’s colours for the launch of the new airline.

Air Scotland fired Electra from the operating agreement over unsatisfactory performance issues and have contracted Air Holland to run the service using two 757-200’s. Air Scotland expect the new planes to be painted up in their livery in due course.

The picture on airliners.net shows an airport de-icing truck parked up against the rear of one of the 757’s to prevent it being moved backwards. Unfortunately I can’t post it directly for some reason.

You get more aircraft stories in the Evening Times than regular news sometimes, the editor must be a spotter ? (lol)

Read in today’s Evening Times that the Glasgow impounded 757 has been removed to Brussels yesterday after Electra coughed up the necessary to BAA. The other one is in Edinburgh and is the subject of an impounding by the CAA. It needs hefty servicing as well according to the paper report.

well it depends on how we compare the cleanliness of the exterior. If we class it with AF or the old KLMUK it could be classed as clean in some cases

Just caught the takeoff, it was an hour late although they expected it to be later than this. I hope they repaint them soon, the livery makes the 757 look ancient. I’ve seen DC-8’s looking fresher than this !

Arrived at GLA today to note that the Electra planes are away and just in time to catch this as it was just taking to the skies.

Snapped through the terminal windows.

Yeah it’s the impounding that’s the new part of the story, Air Holland took over the flights last weekend I gather. I’m going to try and get a photo if possible. Heading to GLA today and PIK tomorrow on a general photo mission.

Yeah I posted it, on one of my news threads…

Here’s the article:

New airline sacks plane suppliers

SCOTLAND’S newest low-cost airline has parted company with its aircraft supplier less than a month after launching services from Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh to Spanish holiday destinations.

Air-Scotland yesterday terminated its contract with Electra Airlines, saying the standards of service and support offered by the company were not acceptable.

In its first few weeks of operating since 29 March there have been a number of flight delays which Air-Scotland has blamed on Electra failing to have its Boeing 757-200 aircraft ready on time. It has signed a new agreement with Air Holland to handle all its 11 weekly scheduled services to European airports.

The company chairman, Dhia al-Ani, said: “We regret that we have been forced to end our agreement with Electra, but their standards of service and support were no longer acceptable. We must be able to offer customers reliable, first-class quality service, and that means taking off on time. “

yeah, Ren posted about ten days ago that Electra had been sacked by Air Scotland, and that Air Holland would be operating their flights, I think the news worthiness of the story was more that BAA had impounded the Electra planes.

Yes this news is old now… sorry to say. Air Scotland are already, or going to operate their flights through Air Holland, using 757’s

It was also supposed to be at GLA, I might nip over tomorrow for a look, although this news is now about a week old apparently.
