With them only having one aircraft for their whole summer timetable I was worried this would happen. I can only presume it has gone tech as they cancelled all their flights yesterday and today they are running up HUGE delays! For example at EDI(I’m posting this at 17.35):
07.10 GRE2624 BARCELONA LANDED 1526
15.45 GRE2722 MALAGA (no word yet, basically it’s not landed yet)
and on the departures front:
08.10 GRE2721 MALAGA GATE CLOSED
This isn’t the first time this has happened, so I wouldn’t touch Air Scotland just now, I’d take Flyglobespan everytime.
The compensation claims and other consequences of these cancellations and delays will probably kill them off, if not their passengers vowing not to fly them ever again due to their bad experiences. 🙁
Unless I’m wrong?

That’s a very good point, and probably why the flight is cancelled!

I dont get how they can operate two arrivals within 40 minutes of each other, with just one 757. Do they normally charter another a/c?
By: RIPConcorde - 7th June 2004 at 17:06
Even now they haven’t got back to normal yet!
EDI arrivals:
14.40 GRE2116 GERONA LANDED 1644
15.20 GRE2124 PALMA MALLORCA CANCELLED
EDI departures:
15.20 GRE2116 GLASGOW GATE OPEN
Still not left at 17.05
Routing must be Gerona-EDI-GLA.

I think Alicante flight times were changed some time back – maybe they just have not been updated on the computer that generates the arrivals / departures

I don’t know what the A represents in the flight number because AFAIK Flyglobespan don’t have any regular flight numbers with letters in them.
you must have 2 or 3 letters at the start of the flight number!

Couple of examples of Globespan from tonight,
GSM6141 ALICANTE CANCELLED
And even under the EXS code,
EXS141A ALICANTE CANCELLED
There are 4 hours between these arrivals, anyone know a definite answer?

GLA inbound
02.10 GRE2744 Palma Via Newcastle No remarks as yet

I’ve never heard how good or bad Air Scotland or doing financially, there was a documentary on them on Scottish t.v a few months ago, it gave a good insight into the running of a company, it’s family run by a guy(Greek origins I think) and his wife who dreamt up the idea and now it’s reality, the stresses of the job led to him having a heartattack it was an interesting program.
Anyway, here’s an update, finally an arrival time:
15.45 GRE2722 MALAGA EXPECTED 0010

I can’t see an airline going bust due to a few lengthy delays and cancellations! It always make me laugh when a passenger turns around and says ‘I’m never flying this airline again’ when a a few months later their back with the same airline as it was £xx cheaper than the nearest rival! Its not got for an airline to get delays, but they all get them, its bad but hey, s**t happens! 🙂

Ill keep an eye on the GLA inbound PMI via NCL due about 0230.
No Remarks as yet.

A quick update, GRE2722 hasn’t changed. It still hasn’t landed and there is no indication of when it will.
15.45 GRE2722 MALAGA (no word yet, basically it’s not landed yet)
GRE2743 is showing this but with no aircraft to operate it yet as it hasn’t arrived from Malaga I don’t understand the comment, unless they have rushed another aircraft in?
16.45 GRE2743 NEWCASTLE AND
PALMA MALLORCA GATE CLOSED

Am I the only one to notice, that Globespan seem to cancel about 2 flights a day for some reason? I have noticed it on several occasions on the GLA arrivals board, I think todays Prague was one of them.
I haven’t noticed..perhaps because I don’t peruse it.
anyone.?
By: by738 - 6th June 2004 at 19:10
There not actually cancelled -its something to do with originally changed flight times which were programmed and EXS and GSM flight codes. All flights operate as normal.
Im not sure of the exact details.
By: RIPConcorde - 6th June 2004 at 19:10
They always cancel flights at GLA under the GSM flight code. I can’t remember why and I’m unsure of the situation, I have a feeling they still operate though? Like I said it is something to do with the GSM code, all flights that use EXS are fine.

because in the late 80’s there were 3 or 4 popular flights per week from GLA to ATH, 2, because Athens typically is the the gateway for independent tourists who self-construct, to visit the Greek Isles, and 3 – obviously for the Olympics. 🙂
Good input! But this is the early 2Ks and folk have more choices. I feel that Air Scotland might have planned their
business model on the late 80s. A model that might have worked if they had a strong High Street travel agent arm.
They don’t unfortunately. Folk want departures of their choice … the days of social-engineered airports are
over.:(

over-capacity on GLA sunshine routes
With an overall increase in ” sunshine” routes this year, I fear, if the above is true, that operators have not done their homework. With extensive market research and analysis, somehow I think this is unlikely.
I just get the impression if Air Scotland were going under they would have gone by now. I think they will ride it out again.
Theres no reason why a short season to Athens will not work. 1, because in the late 80’s there were 3 or 4 popular flights per week from GLA to ATH, 2, because Athens typically is the the gateway for independent tourists who self-construct, to visit the Greek Isles, and 3 – obviously for the Olympics. 🙂
