Hi all
we’re working on sea vixen xj494 at brunty and have the gutted shell of the pod mounted air start trolley (palouste)
we’re going to try and restore this pod at some stage along with the vixen or find someone who wants to tackle a mini project
however we have no info or even photo’s of the pod’s internals, i’ve made some enquiries but no joy yet
over to you anything helpful would be more than we’ve got now

hi paul, it’s matt here, i came down with dave a few months ago during the uncertain times and scanned a few bits of manuals then, we have seen your pod indeed Dave Thomas is meant to be getting a copy of the manual off you have to get it to my brother for the rebuild, as i don’t think you’ll have the time to scan it into a computer and send it electronically
I take it that ERU’s for the stores pylons are as rare as rocking horse, and that the one dave left with you is beyond hope.
as you may know we have already stuck on one of our tanks but i’m a bit dubious as to wether the rod that substitutes for an ERU is man enough for when we fast taxi, although it coming off might look spectacular, it won’t go down well with Dave Walton
Cheers Paul

We at DSA (ex-De Hav) have the manuals for the pod, give us a ring on 01202 575497, and we have a servicable pod, again just waiting for CAA permission to carry it (not holding my breath)

I was at Farnborough in ’91 working for Flight systems Inc on our F-100’s. We had a Pod that we used while there, but I can’t recall if it belonged to us or Farnborough. Perhaps you could check with the folks there or contact Flight Systems, (now BAE Flight Systems @ Mojave Ca). I believe their F-100’s have been removed from service, (we used them for Dart Tow Ops, not the drones). Could be the pods are lying about Mojave Airport.

there should be only palouste ones, the only difference i can see is that your mountings are buccaneer standard as opposed to sea vixen ones which were ball fittings however the pods carried either inside the tail section, we’re only after internal shots to show the layout of all the internal fittings we’ll have to then work out hoe the engine fits in, as wedon’t have any shots inside of any other pods other than the wrecks we’ve got anything will be a help

The one at London Colney is not, IIRC a Sea Vixen one. It also doesnt have an engine unfortunately!

here’s the state of play on the pod
main assy’s together and partially stripped, main control panel stripped and getting rebuilt and various access panels in paint
and then get an engine module from brunty to bolton with thanks to our regular shuttle driver

printed most of it out as stated previously
we have a manual for a trolley based version which has helped in some ways however we need photo’s from anyone connected with one of the museums that have ones
at this moment i know that gatwick and dehav at colney both have pods that until recently were either used or accessable and i’m still waiting for requests to be answered !!!
NB:- “Zwitter” your PM box is full i can’t send you a reply

we now have the ammeter for the control panel via ebay and the repainted panel is being rebuilt.really need internal pics of a fully fitted out example so we know what goes where, can anybody help us out here.pod itself has been stripped of all external panels and is being stripped and filled ready for paint before rebuild comences, hence the picture request.i’m sure my brother can post pics of the progress so far.

with regard to the pod at gatwick, even though you have no manuals you might be able to help us by taking pictures of the internals and how they all fit together its better to see it rather than work it out from old diagrams in manuals.so if you can send us any pics of what you have inside yours it would really help us out.send me or matt a pm or let milton know he has our contact details.any help from anyone would be good.we have lots of bits but not all will relate to the pod as the ones we have are largely empty.seeing the parts is a better way to id them.thanks again.

6A/3580
Hi there,
Ref Resistor 6A/3580 AP1086 sec 6A to AL181 (undated) lists this as an adjustable resistor (no values given).
It is listed under the section for Type C exhaust gas thermometer 6A/3577 which is detailed as having an 8 ohm external resistance.
Not being an electrician myself, not much info there I’m afraid.
Regards
Dave
