Personally I think the automotive industry should be pushed harder to provide alternatives… The electric car concept for example, could make a huge difference to global emissions, but try telling that to the chairmen of ICI, BP, Texaco, Shell etc etc etc… ?

Apparantly cremations leak out alot of poisioness gasses.

Or as some may argue, blame all the meat eaters of the world. Seeing as they reckon the huge increase in cattle for the meat industry is doing a lot more harm than other sources of harmful gasses due to the…..well, fumes from the cattle.
I’m a meat eater myself, but I’m just saying it’s a combined effort. The airline industry is actually making the most effort to reduce emissions. Aerodynamic profiles are for ever being designed and introduced to save on fuel burn, and engine manufactures are putting in an immense effort to make their engines as efficient as they can.
The automotive industry are still turning out more and more fuel guzzling machines and little effort is being put into converting people to buy hybrids, or even design more economic engines. And unless governments world wide switch now to all renewables and/or nuclear, the power you are using to read this post will continue to harm the environment. And as for cows……well, who can live without meat 😀

Or just look at Prince Andrew who got a flight from London to some where near York to play a game of golf.

This is just another example of aviation bashing! If there not having a go about the environment its compenstion or something else.
They should look at the SUVs that are driven by around by MILFs droppin the kids to school, there the real ones destroying the envioronment.
The fat cats sitting in business class wont care becauase its the company footing the bill, its the normally joes trying to visit friends or family somewhere that will suffer.

But it’s easyJet and Ryanair that fly the brand new, more efficient aircraft.

Seeing as the low-cost carriers are contributing most to the GROWTH in air travel (and thus growth in emissions), seems only fair that their passengers pay most to offset the emssions their flights are causing! Besides, anything that puts off all the Ryanair passengers that seem to be clogging up airport terminals these days can’t be a bad thing! 😉

On another note, it seems the Government is not actually for these proposals – it’s the comittee that has come up with them. Read Steven Ladyman’s comments in the BBC article which give an idea of the Government’s stance.

I think the point here is that it would be totally unfair, why should our airlines be subject to this kind of legislation when foreign carriers are getting away with it, what I’d also like to see is the government stop being so hypocritical, they use every darn plane train & automobile to get from A to B, why don’t they slug it out and start using public transport? see the double standards? Also the airline industry only accounts for about 2% of the world carbon emissions, and it grates a bit when you see the mighty US of A not even coming to consultation over global warming, lets see other countries make an impact as well then we’ll be a bit more forgiving when our government “think tank” comes up with no brainers because they have nothing better to do 😡
