Air to Airs from slides

Am messing around with my new scanner again, figuring out how to scan slides (God I love this machine), thought I’d share what I’d scanned so far…some of mine and Denise’s pics from over the years on some of our air to air missions…

Boomer jr. I’ve sent you a PM. I think I may have a photo for you.

Mark, there must not be a connection. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until now but Joe Hartung died in 1996 and if you flew with him in the 70s it must not be this boomer.

Hoffman died in a plane crash 20+ years ago (In a J-3 Cub I think)!

wow I’ve been looking for this site ever since I found it the first time. I’m real proud of my dad from what all of you are saying but do you happen to have an email or any way to get in touch with Max Hoffman. I’d love to talk to him.

thank you for all your help

There may be no connection…

thats not Boomer….but by any chance do you or anyone have any pictures of Boomer flown by Joe Hartung. My name it Tyler Hartung, Joe was my father and I’m always looking for people who knew him or at least knew of him. but if you do have any pictures of him please post
thanks

…but I flew with Max Hoffman on several occasions in his P-51 in the mid 1970’s. His aircraft carried the colours of 4th FG (Moggy will correct me if I am wrong 😉 ). He later told me that to honour one of his dearest aviation friends, who had recently lost his life in a flying accident I believe, he had added the name ‘Boomer’ to the side cowlings as seen in the second image by my good friend Stuart Howe.

Does this fit in?

Hello Tyler,

I don’t think I’ve got any pictures of your father. I only met him briefly once or twice when he visited Holland in the early 90’s to fly the DBAF B-25. He did leave a lasting memory, if only from his presence and from the stories I heard about him. Are you in touch with anybody from the DBAF? I’m sure there are plenty of stories and photos around, just not in my collection.

Hi Corsair, I think I got my T-6s mixed up. I was thinking of the ex-race number 89 ‘Boomer’ that was flown at Reno by the late Joe Hartung. It doesn’t seem to be the same one. When the only thing you can remember is that it was grey with a big number on the side which contained an ‘8’ then this one looks surprisingly similar all of a sudden

Archer-
Don’t know a Joe H. (what’s the last name?), the plane you refer to has been owned for as long as I can remember by Colorado Springs resident Jerry Flesher…in fact, it served as the photo ship for a great number of the other air to airs above, as well as the camera ship for Steve Bridgewater’s air to airs for ‘Today’s Pilot’ magazine last year’s Oshkosh edition featuring the Airvan on the cover. Jerry is a GREAT camera ship pilot and we’ve had many great missions together.

Nice shots Corsair! May I ask, is that the late Joe H. in the T-6 with number 58?

Ok…how the hell’d I get the B-25 on there twice…and how’d I get 9 different ones on there when there’s only 8 downloads allowed? Unless I counted wrong…

The Corsair and B-25 photos were shot at the same time Phil Makanna was shooting HIS shots of them (remember the cover of one of his GHOSTS books, with the B-25’s wings dissappearing in the clouds?) Shot from the B-25 ‘Silver Lady’ at Breckenridge about 1995…Phil had the tail gun position, I had a waist gun position…
