Air Training Corps Camp Henlow 2005.

Well I have been away for a week now and the news of Steve’s Passing greatly saddens me. I’ve been on camp at RAF Henlow over the last week and have really enjoyed myself. Especially seeing the Queen Bee and ‘Chippie’ which is based there (I believe). It was quite an eventful week as soon as we arrived Mr Teichman Did a ‘Beat up of the Camp In his PRXI.

The Suday (24th of July) we visited Madingley and Duxford and It rained as it Did for most of the week! on the tuesday when we went flying I asked about the two fired dump Canberra frames and the pilot told me he could not identify them. this was followed by a trip to bassingbourn for shooting. I passed the memorial but unfortunatly could not get any pictures due to the fact we were marching.

Finally on the last day we had several TFC aircraft fly over one of which I believe was the H-75 the other a Griffon Spit. at about 6 P.M We were ‘buzzed’ by MH434 and the OFMC’s Mustang. their schemes glistening in the evening sun.

Also during our visit to Duxford A panel was given to a cadet and they were wanting to find out the I dentification forit could anbody help?

Ive only ever flown the nimrod in the simulator, isnt the easiest thing to land anyway,
I put us in the drink whilst trying to land at Gibraltar quite a few times.

I echo that Rlangham!!! Wasn’t the best exerience. Wow, it looks like XV229 links 3people on this Forum. It was an amazing flight- i took over the controls whilst flying over the North Sea during a Submarine hunt exercise i think. My CCF logbook is now framed on that page- BAe Systems Nimrod MR2 – XV229 – 2hours 29minutes.

LoL, I can imagine. Thats why on the mra4’s being built down at woodford the main parts of the pressure shell that are having to be cut out and replaced come from the boggy area, all that p*ss and raccasan is a corrosive mixture.

Wow XV229 was one of the Nimrods i was on, the first one i think. Bloody hard trying to have a p*ss in a Nimrod when its doing a tight turn i’ll tell ya!

I have only been at kinloss since the end of 2003, so I wouldve missed that but we do have a lot of cadets visit and some doing work experience(not many want to be riggers though) we share something in that xv229 was the first nimrod I fixed though it wasnt a glamorous job, being a toilet change. I call it the happy pooper jet now.

MR2, you arn’t stationed at Kinloss are you? I ask because if you remember the 2002 CCF Summer Camp, then I was there!! Perhaps i even flew in a Nimrod with you (XY229 if i remember correctly).

Really? When i was a cadet there was barely any aviation or shooting, fun things like that. If anything it put me off joining the RAF but i still want to (i think)

MR 2,
Unfortuantly I disagree with you as an air cadet I try to get involved in aviation whenever I can. Square bashing is not my favourite piece but it has to be done. At Henlow we were greeted with open arms and recieved alot of praise during the period of the camp. The ATC is getting smaller and we need people to show us the way and people who are helpful to the cause. This will most likely be my last year in the corps as I turn 18 February. Unfortunatly due to other commitments in my life im running out of companies/aviation groups to approach about work and I really dont want to loose out. The ATC has boosted my knowledge of aircraft and with thanks to the RAF helped me choose a suitable career path.

Unfortunately, or fortunately as some think, I’m not aircrew on the Nimrods but I’m an airframe tech working on the line. I should partially retract my last statement as the cadets are a good thing I suppose what with all the flying and stuff, just the marchiing and discipline bit that I hate.

I flew Vigilants for the cadets at Henlow for a while (’98-’99 I think). Great place. I even managed to get a flight in the Queen Bee. That was quite an experience!

noisy air cadets are the bane of my life, I work a lot of night shifts and they wake me up with their shenanigans all the time. Quite why somebody would go through the rigours of being in the military without being paid a decent wage for it is beyond my comprehension.

Don’t happen to be aircrew on Nimrods do you? Chances are i’ve met you back in 2003

Henlow is a treat. Great camp go if you can.

I wish I could, I’m leaving the Corps this October for brighter things, so the chance will most probably never crop up again. 🙁 Unless the Fleet air arm start doing camps to RAF stations :p

The panel came from the TFC hangar so I wasnt sure Possibly maybe the firefly although the Yellow is a bit to light. I thought it may have come of Princess Elizabeth.

Should that read ARCo Firefly?

You’re quite right, of course. Let that be a warning to any of you posting in the early hours…

Think yourself lucky. Norfolk and Suffolk Wing have either Sealand or Honington.
