I have just read in my evening paper tonight that Air Wales are planning to operate a 4 times daily service from Liverpool to Luton using a Dornier. Euroceltic have also shown interest in this service and Liverpool-Waterford. A Liverpool Airport spokesmen said there are several carriers interested ??! Liverpool is my local airport and I miss a link to London since Easyjet gave up the route, so I will be watching these developments closely.

Its not Air Wales its Brussles!

Sabena and Sobelair went bust, Virgin Express or VEX or whatever they call themselves now are having to diversify quite a bit to stay afloat, RYR and their STN-CRL service debacle, and not many airlines are wanting to come into Zaventem, with SN Brussels providing the minimal level of connectionstp BRU as possible, largely with 146s.
Considering the amount of money that the EU through away I would have though some of that would have gone on expensive plane tickets.

Its become apparent to me over the last while that Brussels to anywhere doesnt work.Brussles doesnt seem to have the passengers to hold onto any routes really does it.Being so close to The Netherlands and France doesnt help either and the Eurotunnel is also a sworn enemy of Brussles national airport.

To me they seem to be introducing too many new routes at the same time and I hardly ever see any advertisment for them. The only route I have seen advertised is the Swansea to London City.

They have dropped 2 routes off the top of my head.

Brussels and they dropped another didnt they

Well i’m sure they’ll start new routes in the future, i hope so anyway, for my national Airline!
By: Airline owner - 6th April 2004 at 10:19
what are they going to do with thier ATR 42’s hanging around???? if they have no where to fly to then should they be returned to thier lessors(if they are leased)
By: Jeanske_SN - 5th April 2004 at 22:08
It looks like were talking about a total cancellation here and not going to a daily flight. Then the results will be very bad.
By: Jeanske_SN - 5th April 2004 at 21:54
Huh? were they flying to Brussels? Since when? Why do they decide so rapidly? Well, It doesn’t surprise me without any advertisement in Belgium! These kind of destinations need advertisement. A link to the Wales was before very difficult, and if nobody knows about it, they shouldnt be surprised about the result.

Pity, they’ll use the aircraft i’m sure on new routes, and they have another coming in the next few weeks ATR42 G-CDFF
By: brenmcc1 - 5th April 2004 at 18:22
He He, I think they lacked a bit of research.

Whilst this has only been running for about 2 weeks, 2 passengers a flight isn’t really sustainable 🙁

Three times a day I think.

This route reminds me of the Calgary- Edmonton route, its about 20 minutes less of a flight, but significantly cheaper. A 50 pound flight is about 80-85 dollars Canadian. A flight between Edmonton and Calgary is $30 or about 15-20 pounds. This is using a much larger aircraft though as it is a high frequency route. This could be why the 12 passenger is so expensive. How often is the route flown?
By: EGNM - 16th August 2003 at 19:25
most of these flights are for buisness passengers where time is of the essence, not just for me and you. The company gains more out of having you travelling for 2 hours (incl check-in etc) between Cardiff and London city than have you sat on a train for 4 hours, in some cases such as a crew positioning for an airline ad-hoc charter this can be many thousends of pounds gain

It depends I suppose, certainly an expensive flight will justify a service where there is not as higher demand as I know is the case for many services into LCY. I pressume that if the flight is for the business community then firstly they will be willing to pay that ammount to reach the city so maybe that is where the success lies. Anyway the flight seems late in the evening, possibly earlier are more fruitful?

Those PAX numbers certainly are disappointing.:(
By: T5 - 13th August 2003 at 18:32
£50 does seem an awful lot for a one way flight between Swansea/Cardiff and London.
Although with the weather, the trains are not quite so reliable, they are considerably cheaper. I would only consider flying such a short distance if time was of the essence.
By: Saab 2000 - 13th August 2003 at 17:21
Interesting, do you think the flights will last? 12 passengers doesn’t seem a lot though I suppose the high prices justify the route.
