Air Zimbabwe F28s

Can any of you Fokker experts help me out here? I have just obtained a 1/72 display model of an F28 in the markings of Air Zimbabwe. I cant find any info on them having flown the F28, Anyone know any more? Thanks.

Andrew I have had many given to me over my aviation career span by people in the industry, and a small number I have bought. I have two friends who buy, sell and trade them for a living, and I do a lot of the latter through them nowadays. Without those guys I wouldnt be able to obtain them.

Thanks Kabir, its made by Fokkers own supplier so I guess it falls into the “what might have been” category.

Many thanks guys, All info greatly appreciated. What you’ve said would make sense ref the F28 in Africa.

yes, i remember Air Zimbabwe leasing a F28 from Air Namibia for a brief period of time. Although there is a slight chance i maybe wrong.

Well there are quite a few airlines in Africa operating the Fokker 28 so it would not surprise me if Air Zimbabwe leased one for a while. Don’t quote me but Air Botswana leased a Fokker 28 and before this I think it could of been with Air Zimbabwe though that is very unreliable.

Thanks Andrew and Lyndon. I think that sometimes these models must be comissioned by the aircraft manufacturers themselves with a view to a possible sale. I have a Boeing 757-200 in JAT colours, I don’t think that they ever ordered them, and an A340-600 in the old red and white Virgin colours, although in the end of course VS did get the -600 but in the now current scheme, so perhaps this F28 is another “what might have been” model.

Nothing on Airliners.net ? Seems strange that a model was made if they never used the type unless they were planning to and had a promotional one made up ? Anyone else got any ideas ?
