A preview of ‘Airbase’ at Coventry, two weeks before the grand opening, a few photos of the venue and the aircraft, all looking very clean and shiney !

You don’t need to book to go into Airbase,it is open Tues-Sun,10.00 till 1800.
Just pay at the desk.
DC6 taxy runs can be pre booked if you wish or just pay on the day, however they only occur on a weekend at present.

Does Airbase have a website?
I want to have a look around, but would prefer to do it when there is going to be something flying! How does one “book” to go along? does it cost much?
Cheers, Scott.

Vampire T.11 visitor
Airbase had a visitor yesterday (Wed) in the lovely shape of Vampire T.11.
Stopped en route from North Weald to Dublin for liquid refreshment (the aeroplane and the occupants).
It may call in on the return and may stay at Airbase for a little while.

The pic looking out of the window at an engine start with Dakota House in the background raises a bit of a smile.
It had been the habit to park the ‘6 on the apron tail-on to Dakota House. The smoke chucked out during start-up has set of the fire alarms in the offices more than once. It happened again Saturday – now the aircraft’s tail is no longer in that direction 😀

Nashio966:
Did you come and have a peer through WR963?
We didn’t this time, but we’ll be regular visitors to Airbase, so didn’t want to get around everything too quickly!

If you haven’t been yet – Go! – You won’t be disappointed!
Nimrod XV232

Chipmunk G-APLO
And the highlight of the day – a taxy ride in the DC-6 G-APSA.
What a beast!

Advert in local free paper today for the opening of Airbase THIS Saturday.
Admission: Adults £8, Children (over 8) £4.
Taxi rides in the DC-6 £15 (£5 discount on that if you’ve got a copy of the ad!)
Unfortunately there’ll be no pleasure flying this weekend as the airfield license is not complete yet.
However I believe the Howard 500 will be on static display.
From Saturday Airbase will be open Tues to Sun (plus Bank Hols).

Apologies, I was just referring back to an earlier bit of this thread from May 19 😮

Morse or not, that is frowned upon guys.
I moved Healey flyers post over onto a seperate thread to try and get this one back on track.

What are you on about you lunatic?
 Read the big bold obvious bit at the top of the post, muppet! The words ‘Morse’ and ‘Key’ appearing together are a bit of a giveaway.
Consider yourself Facepalmed.;)
Rich knew… 🙂

By: Nashio966 - 24th May 2010 at 12:31

Fingers crossed that it turns out to be a great day. I’m going to miss the opening, but if what we saw when the Nimrod was just a taster, then Airbase has a bright future ahead of it.
