Airbase to Classic Air Force Feb '13

Just watched Vampire T.11 XJ771/G-HELV take off at Coventry (11.37am) apparently bound for Newquay.

The second of the fliers to migrate (Auster went down a couple of weeks ago) it’s take off was preceeded by Chipmunk G-APLO which I presume has gone to bring the Vampire pilot back.

Over the last weekend (3rd/4th February) the ‘spare’ Sea Devon that was roaded from Kemble a while back and never put on display at Airbase dissappeared from the apron at Coventry. I’m presuming that is/has been roaded to Newquay.

When I was hunting for drawings on the Saturday, the Sea Devon was in bits down at the back of what used to be the Airbase hangar, hiding behind the DH Heron and Meteor NF11.

Its going to get lonely down at Coventry all too soon. 🙁

The Vampire was overhead St Athan about midday, heading Newquay way with a light twin which sounded like it was at max chat!

I did my Tailwheel conversion in ‘Lima Oscar’ when it was summer-based in Jersey. Have some very fond memories of flying to and between the islands in her on balmy summer days! Much preferred the UAS paint scheme she used to wear.
