In a conventional battle (and not the present anti-terror type), the effectiveness of artillery has really gone up, as well as suppressing enemy artillery using radar detectors. It took for instance, the Israeli military between 10-15 minutes to respond to a launch site using such targeting radars.
I was wondering if it is possible to integrate this sort of mechanism into a small airborne platform, to target enemy artillery units. Thus, as soon as an enemy artillery fires, a CAS platform in the vicinity would have its exact location and “suppress” the enemy fire 😀
Such a mechanism may already be available with the longbow?
Would definitely appreciate thoughts and comments on this. I think its important as one of the strategic problems with the South Vietnam army after the US left, was that the North Vietnam artillery out-ranged them, and as a result slowly managed to knock them out and gain ground.
