My other half saw one depart into the low cloud at about 14.15 today ,was it EK?
I havent received my airport timetables yet so am unable to check!

That’s what I’m saying. Why wouldn’t they use it at LHR for all the world to see?
And can you blame them, it’s a great looking beast…

Dave, there are a few places, but theres a walk involved.
Alongside the runway there is a road. On that road there is a pub. I think you are allowed to leave the car in there. If you walk away from the pub (towards the LGW Museum end), on your left there is a bank, you’ll most likely see other spotters etc standing on on. That offers great views across the threshold.
I will put up some pics later on of this spot. 🙂

I never really managed to find anywhere that decent around LGW, despite searching the perimeter extensivly. I was never all that impressed with the Skyview actually, it had gor worse and worse as the years went by. Its a shame, as there is usually some more interesting stuff to see at LGW than LHR Ive found, esp the Northwest DC10s Air Zimbabwe, DAS Cargo etc.

Thanks for the replies chaps!
Looking at LGW departures for today the EK goes to Dubai @14.15 so it was most likely that he saw.
Andrew ,you are so lucky living where you are–Im very jealous!
Hi Charley, I live very near A330, and yes we are lucky to live midway between LHR and LGW. Unfortunately LGWs viewing gallery has closed down so we having to find vantage points around the airport for spotting, and the same goes for LHR,
btw: has anyone who spots at LGW regulary found any good vantage points for spotting?

Well its the first airline I have heard of that considers LGW more prestigous then LHR!

Obviously the size suits the route.gpb you are probably absoulutley right EK like to show off there A345 and rightfully so.Buissness people hear about it and fly Emirates to London or Dubai because they can fly on this faboulous aircraft that they have heard about.

I don’t quite understand the need for the 345 on the route either. However they have used it on the route ever since the 1st one was delivered back last year. Now however they always use the same one A6-ERC
From what I can gather they use the 345 on this route as it’s considered a prestigious route so they want to use their latest aircraft on it. I’m not 100% certain about this but it would explain why they use the 345 to LGW even though they don’t need its range.

Nose on the 7E7 looks a lot like the old comet nose, don’t it?

Why do EK use the A345 into LGW? surely they don’t need the range for that flight.

They did use some extra slots during the last Christmas/New Year period but they dont operate a true scheduled service.

Could have been one of two airlines.
Emirates or Gulf Air.
