Airbus A350 to compete with Boeing 7E7?

The Berlin newspaper : “Berliner Morgenpost” reports today that the European plane-builder Airbus was reportedly considering launching a new plane to compete with American rival Boeing 7E7.
The plane will look like an A330 but will be much lighter because of new materials being used, it will also have the same engines like the 7E7.
General Electric and the Rolls-Royce Group will help finance the new plane.
The Wall Street Journal reports the ultimate decision could be made in a few weeks.

I usually take different medicines at the same time, and it has really bad side effects. I do appreciate your nice words.

No offence intended.

But your original reply didn’t realy have any reasonable comments in it.

A little thing called manners and forum etiquette!

You’re on the same stuff too then? Because if your implying I’m breaking rules… please do list your analysis on this thread and detail how I have contravened forum regulations.

What Keltic said made no real sense what-so-ever so I jovialy enquired about it.

I don´t think the B7E7 is that modern either. Just get a A330, put them delta wings, dolphin like rudder, and Blade Runner interiors……hop….a modern futuristic airbus. Aviation doesn´t innovate too much. Travel lengh hasn´t improved much, and speed is the same as it was in the first time of the jet age. Why don´t we have a new Concorde, less noise, fuel efficient, and high capacity?. That would be real innovation, not a “trendy”, “posh design” new plane with not really speed improvement and based in traditional technology. I am not impressed by the B7E7

There is only really one person on this board who actually has really strong views towards one manufacturer and then claims that everyone else creates the conflicts!!!

Trust me Sandy…The one thing that bores me sh#*+ess about this forum is the endless bickering about the AI vs Boeing thing. Considering the endless posts I’ve put up pointing out what I believe to be the overwhelming need for BOTH these companies to be a fundemental part of our industry. I don’t take kindly to being accused of starting another irksome AI versus Boeing thread. I have worked with products produced by both of these companies and I base my observations on those experiences. I was merely pointing out that BOTH these two enterprises can be as bad as the other. But I’m not so inept as to be blinded by a mesmorising loyalty to one trade mark or another at the expense of objectivity. If some are, then thats something for them to ponder on.

But it’s unfortunate that there are only 2 manufacturers. Would be nice to see both A and B pushed by someone else.

Agreed – It’s competition that’s got us the aircraft and airline industry we’ve got today.

A bit of healthy competition; I like it. 🙂

As for the comments made by the Airbus CEO previously; its all marketing hype and no-one should believe, or take seriously, those type of comments. It may be BS, but all companies do it.

Look forward to seeing the A350 fly.

Here’s the actual link from the Times anyway if anyone’s intersted:

Airbus plans spoiler to stop new Boeing airliner from taking off

August 29, 2004

by Dominic O’Connell

AIRBUS is trying to spoil the launch of Boeing’s new 7E7 airliner with a rival plane.

Engineers at the European plane maker are working on a new aircraft — tentatively titled the A350 — that could be in service before the 7E7’s commercial debut.

The A350 would be based on the A330-200, Airbus’s current mid-sized airliner, but would have heavily modified wings and engines. Airbus is understood to have been in discussions with Rolls-Royce and other engine makers over how engine technology could be adapted for the A350 airframe.

A hint that airlines are taking the A350 proposal seriously came last week from Singapore Airlines. It is reportedly close to a big deal with Boeing for its long-haul 777-300, but has held off from committing itself.

Airline industry sources said the 7E7 decision had been stymied by a cut-price rival offer from Airbus for the A350.

“I don’t think there is any doubt that we will do an aircraft to compete with the 7E7,” said one senior Airbus executive. “Neither manufacturer can let the opposition get into a position where they can establish a lead in a particular niche.”

Airbus last week grabbed another order for its new super-jumbo, the A380, which will carry 150 more passengers than Boeing’s largest aircraft, the 747. Thai Airways said it would buy six new A380s — taking the A380 order book to 139.

The A380 cost $11 billion (£6 billion) to develop, and Airbus said that it needed to sell a total of 250 to break even on the project.

The Times Online

As loads of you said the A350 is nothing new. My Uncle who works for Airbus at Filton nr Bristol says they’ve been talking about it for years but they may have speeded it up a bit for the arrival of the 7E7.
