As i was at Liverpool doing some spotting, i noticed a big black blob flying through the sky. When i got my binoculars out it turned out to be a Beluga.
I was watching to see the wheels come down and my instant reaction was it was going to land here. It eventuallyturned whilst coming down out towards Manchester Airport direction.
Can anyone shed any light on it if they were either spotting at Manchester or driving past.I could not see what number it had on the back fins as the sun was glaring against it.
It would have been a spectaculor experience to see it, if only it would have turned right about 270degrees.I am not sure if the runway is large enough for the Beluga at Liverpool.:( 🙁 🙁 . I was thinking of going that little bit further to Manchester and i would have found out…..

As said above the aircraft usually flies into Chester (Hawarden) and if it went to either MAN or LPL it would be as a divert

yeah, but it’s never gonna take off at MTOW from Britain to France… The Fuel tanks for example wouldn’t be full.

Then landing at manchstere was even exceptional, it needs over 3000 meters to get off safely at mtow!

Thats funny i could have swore i have seen Tristars, B742, B743, DC-10, B763, VC10, Beluga, A310, A330s either with my own eyes out of the window at work (i work opposite to stand 7) or on pics in the offices – All on the ground at LPL!
The aircraft usually flies into Hawarden in Cheshire and has diverted into both LPL and MAN before that i know of.

Really not having a good day… Filton’s not in the Manchester part of the world… It’s down in Bristol! They make wings at Broughton!
By: Ren Frew - 19th February 2004 at 12:39
Why didn’t it just land at Filton then, or doesn’t it have an operational runway anymore ?
By: GZYL - 19th February 2004 at 12:24
That’s the place I was trying to think of… my head’s not working this morning!!
By: Bhoy - 19th February 2004 at 12:23
course they’re frequently in that area… Airbus wings are built at BAE Sytems in Filton, Cheshire.

Aren’t the Beluga’s a regular sight in that part of the world?? I met someone ages ago from somewhere around Manchester who said he saw an Airbus Guppy once a week picking up airbus bits… can’t remember where he said it landed though… Does this still happen… but with a Beluga??
