The twin-engine, widebody jet is too small — the base 7E7-8 would carry around 217 passengers in a three-class configuration — and many airlines are telling Airbus they are not interested in ordering it, despite what Boeing says publicly, according to Leahy.
“It’s typical hype,” the American-born Leahy said.
“I’ve never seen an airplane where the market hype from the PR department is less in contact with the reality of the marketplace.”
Maybe he should look at Airbus’ PR dept. Then he’ll see.
“We are in contact with the airlines. We talk to them on a daily basis. We know Boeing is going around and making a lot of presentations, but we don’t see anyone about to place orders.”
Sniff sniff….. oh yes… I smell bullsh*t

thats as maybe, I am referring to the article at the start of this thread. Where Leahy disses boeings use of composits

I took a tour of the Boeing Everett plant last week, according to the tour guide, the 7E7 will be built in 2 years, ready for flight tests in 3 years. That day on the ramp, there were 2 SQ 777, an SQ 747-400F, VN 777, in one of the paint hangers was yet another SQ 777. I think Airbus made this comment after having weight problems with the A380, which I was suspecting all along, no matter how mighty that plane might be, they will have to make a sacrifice of either pax or Cargo.
Or increase the ammounts of composit used.
Which would then make the hypocrites

The day Airbus and Boeing quit sniping at each other will be the day peace comes to the mideast and Michael Moore has dinner with Bush.
lmao

Well, to be fair, the bitching is down by the PR depts 😉
By: Hand87_5 - 21st July 2004 at 11:08
If we could now get them to get on with their projects and stop bitching at each other, it’d be perfect. Because the current bickering gets uglier by the day and that’s not good for the industry as a whole.
Perhaps US and EU officials should lock the CEOs of both companies in a room and keep them there until they ‘make up’… 😀
Well you know nowadays , CEO’s have not much to do regardless playing golf, stting up “very important meetings”, dating their mistresses and gambling with their stock options.
This little “bitching game” keeps them busy 😀

The best thing that ever happened to Boeing was Airbus’s appearance in the 80’s. Now the best thing that has happened to Airbus is Boeing’s resurgence in the early 2000’s.
Oh yes!
I really wish that Boeing will put is bu!! ingear. I guess the he 7E7 project is the best news since the A380 launch.
Competition makes everyone do better.

Agreed.
He states that the A330 has taken 80% of the market share from the B767. Well, thats true as the A330 was designed and built 10 years or so later, the tech differences are huge. The 7E7 will do exactly the same, take the market share away from the A330. And thats what’s scaring the crap out of Airbus.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. Airbus have suddenly woken up to the fact that in order to compete with Boeing in this marketplace they are going to make radical changes to the 330, both from an economical, technical and aesthetic perspective. The final design of the 7E7 won’t be unveiled until 2005, but it’s clear Airbus can see that potential 330 orders will suffer as a result.

I never said they were not attracting orders. Look back @ my posts, I never mentioned this once. I said it will be interesting to see how the airlines take to the 7E7.
I like Boeing and the Airbus (My favourite a/c is the 757 for gods sake!).
By: SHAMROCK321 - 20th July 2004 at 20:36
One thing that will go in Airbus favour is alot of airlines have gone all Airbus like EI and BD so they wont be ordering 7E7s anyways. Not 2 of the worlds largest carriers but with EI placing an order for long haul aircraft soon Airbus must be confident.
Im pretty anti-Boeing but truth be told they have never produced a bad aircraft maybe except the 717 but Airbus have made errors.
The 7E7 will be competitive in my opinion I cant see how it wont be and Airbus are rightly nervous but competition is great. The A330 beat the 767 and now it Boeings turn to launch an aircraft that can have Airbus shaking and hopfully this will get Airbus working on a new/modified aircraft.
Both companies are taking a different approach with one thinking hub to hub is the way and the other going for direct flight.
I personally thought Airbus were right but although Im anti-Boeing I can see where they are coming from and I think both have an equal chance of sucedding.1 will prevail and itll be interesting to see who.

Oh right launched was the wrong word, I meant when the 1st flight takes place.
I’m not been anti manufacturer at all, I respect what both Boeing and Airbus do, and the A380 is a completely different type of aircraft to the 7E7, so don’t go accusing without any proof.
Well you seem pretty ready to diss boeing on this very thread.
I don’t see you ackowledging anything wrong with the airbus products. I’m not accusing, just stating fact.
yes the A380 is an entirely different aircraft, but the principle you mention is the same. both are entirely new. you argument is that airlines will not risk ordering an entirely new aicraft, but you forget that the A380, being an entirely new aicraft, has 129 firm orders!
My point is, your argument about a new aircraft not attracting orders because of risk is flawed.

Yeah but we also had reports that the 7E7 has design problems.
The 7E7 is going to be a radical new aircraft and that contains risks.
It will be very interesting to see how the airlines take to the 7E7 when it is launched.
The 7E7 hase been launched.
Same goes for the A380… I don’t see you being so negative about that… now who’s anti “manufacturer”?
