I managed to gain entry (lawfully!! ) to this little show this afternoon, had a look round some of the worksops etc, all very interesting for the fledging aero engineer that i am (I need a job if anyone is after a newbi in the bristol area!! ).
There was a simple yet effective flying display, it proved a great day to grapple with the eos300D I have just bought.
I have an eos300 film body and the eos lense kit to go with it, and i thought i would upgrade to the dslr body, and i have to say i am very pleased with the results soo far. I found that lowering shutter speed to get good prop blur is a bit of a no-no….perhaps a monopod?? using Tv and a speed of 250 I managed decent results but would stop there in fear of bluries until i have saved up for the 400 squid canon IS 300mm lense i spotted the other day. So P and Tv ruled the day with the sports auto setting although i thought that the results with this setting were too blurry for my liking, much sharper, but i do like the 4 frame burst mode, and it is a pity that its only available on that setting (or so it seems)…..so, some photo’s, enjoy!
as you will see the day was really mixed between cloudy sun and quite heavy rain (just for thea340-600 display which would have been brill with sunshine…have to have another go at farnborough!

comments/questions welcome….hints and tips on improvement also welcome!

continuous drive??? havnt seen that one, or is the burst the same thing?? only the sports setting seems to allow photo after photo, with the camera having to think about refocussing (nothing more than the slr does).
i have lots of practice with panning, but nothing up to the roughly 480mm that the camera gives out, and i did notice that it was easy to decenter the aircraft when pressing the button, so your right, more practice there!
would the extra battery attachment with its vertical grip be better?? does anyone use it??
phil (we share taste in forenames) the hurricane was the first display, and it was really superb, the spit the last display item!
the spit was good, but i got distracted as for some reason that i havnt quite figured out yet, for most of the routine the viewfinder and sensor picked up a white mist which i couldnt get to disappear, whether it was brief condensation in the lense because it had just tipped it down and had taken photo’s during the rain, of the a340, so the camera got wet (altho all is still in working order) and the heat of the sun provoked the reaction , i dont know. anyway, all seems well now.
Another one for the weird **** file.

Nice pics, coanda. 🙂
I watched the flying from the “hill” at the Cribbs Causeway end of the rwy. Some good views of the flying from there – I liked that formation of JP Gnat and Hunter especially.
What time did the Spit/Hurri fly?
I left when the glider did its display.
Couple of my pics….
