questioning is fine, but if the party cannot answer it because the deal was based on a political level and not an ailrines immediate need level it is very hard to give any answer to Airbus for AI. Airbus, knows that the deal was heavily politicised but they are still making a big deal out of it.

Especially since Ms. Condolezza Rice paid a visit to the Indian authorities and an Indian government official was quoted later said the US government had said in no uncertain terms what would happen if Boeing wasn’t chosen…

I think it’d be best if AI comes clean. At the end of the day, if they explain how they reached the decision and why the Boeing product was better for them, Airbus would be left with egg on their face would they not?

IMO, I don’t think Airbus is whining as much as they are trying to figure out why the Indian government suddenly made a 180 degree turn. The airline was looking for a specific product and Airbus seemed to be the right choice according to the parameters set forth by the tender. As much as EADS might be making a lot of noise on this, I do believe they are justified in getting an explanation from the interested parties. I do also believe that politics had a lot to do with this order (As with anyother business deal no matter the sector). There is something to learn from all failures and I am sure that Boeing would have wanted to know why they had lost out to Airbus if the roles had been reversed.

IMO it seems, based on the many articles in various journals on this, that at times Air India does’nt seem to know what it wants. Lets hope for their sake that they have chosen well. I have to admit that the fact that this situation is not calming down does make one wonder if, as quoted by 4 engines, there is no smoke without fire. Doubtless all will become clear……yeah right! :rolleyes:

He said Airbus keeping its position in orders this year could prove difficult as Boeing has been lowering its prices ‘very aggressively’ over the last few months.

I’m sure both companies have had deals snatched out of their hands by their rivals in the past. Yet with this particular deal Airbus is kicking an almighty, unprecedented fuss.

Perhaps they feel there have been dark forces at work, that something highly dodgy/illegal has been going on and that the decision by Air India had nothing to do with choosing the best aircraft for the company.

Or perhaps they’re just having a massive tantrum for losing a deal.

If true, that’s bad. Who are Airbus to attack AI for not buying a specifc aircraft.
