From time to time one encounters the surprise appearance of an interesting aircraft in a film.
Examples are: The Morane-Saulnier 315 in ‘The Blue Max’,
or The Supermarine 535 in ‘Sound Barrier’
It would be an interesting proposition to see what comes out. if this were to be opened as a long running thread for general discussion.
Who knows we might have the makings of a website.
There are numerous sites which touch on this, but I think we should aim to create the definitive list.
Rules: Identify; Film. Aircraft type, Date of fim, Aircraft ident (optional).
Pick up the Gauntlet, if you can find one (Gloster variety?)

Very much a flyer Daz, I’ve always assumed it was one of the French IGN Fortresses but someone may know more?
Whenever you need information on B-17s in films, check Scott Thompson’s (author for the Final Cut book on B-17 survivors) great website.
Yes, it is an IGN aircraft…

That B-17 – can’t tell if it’s a mock-up or a flyer. The aerials and lack of turrets suggest the latter…

is there a sauna scene in it and wasn’t Terry Thomas’s helpers…
Yes, that’s the one.

2 for tea and tea for 2 …..
La Grande Vadrouille (aka Don’t Look Now – We’re Being Shot At), 1966.
If this is the same film I’m thinking of, is there a sauna scene in it and wasn’t Terry Thomas’s helpers insist that he has to shave his handle bar off. If it is I haven’t seen or heard of it since I saw it at the pics aged 8, I don’t think it was the main film.
ah memories…….

Here’s another one, currently on youtube if you’re quick.
Blackout (1950), starring the lovely Dinah Sheridan and the awful “heart throb” Maxwell Reed in a “B feature” tale about blindness, murder and smuggling, with an aviation background.
Vikings feature in several scenes but there are no flying sequences.
It’s watchable just for the 1950 street scenes but be warned, Maxwell’s wooden acting, strange mid-Atlantic accent and unfeasible eyebrows may do your head in!

Here’s a film I’d almost forgotten about but apparently it’s an enduring favourite still in France:-
La Grande Vadrouille (aka Don’t Look Now – We’re Being Shot At), 1966.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060474/
“A RAF Bomber is shot down over Paris by the Germans. Its crew (Terry Thomas as a flight captain) land there by parachute. With the help of some French civilians (Louis De Funès in the role of a conductor and Bourvil as a house painter) they try to escape over the demarcation line into the southern part of France, still not occupied by the Germans.”
I could only recall the opening scenes where the Fortress (complete with RAF markings and rather crude battle damage) arrives over Paris after a navigational c0ck up. Terry Thomas is at the controls, and some of the close ups suggest a B25 was used for the studio scenes.
Later in the film, the escape/pursuit sequences feature a “Storch” and several gliders.
It’s a thoroughly enjoyable romp and I’m pleased to have rediscovered it after so many years. Gotta love TT’s moustache!

Anyone up for ID-ing the three Spitfires? :diablo:
Henlow. Devils Brigade.
Left. P7350 prior to restoration for flight at Henlow.
Centre. K9442 RN-V. For assessment but not used in BoB film and returned to the Exhibition flight.
Right. BM597 PR-O. Prior to dispatch to the film studio to be ‘plastered’ to make the patterns for the GRP replicas.

Aircraft Appearing in Films
Has anyone mentioned the Martin Baker Meteor, in an episode of the Prisoner ?
Mentioned it? There’s even a webpage devoted to it at http://www.theunmutual.co.uk/meteor.htm – despite the picture on the webpage, the actual Meteor was T.7 WA638
Also appearing in this classic 1967 TV series (I’ve got the Boxed Set of 17 episodes…) were
Alouette II helicopter F-BNKZ (see http://www.theunmutual.co.uk/alouette.htm) and Bell 47G-2 G-ATSH (see http://www.theunmutual.co.uk/bell47g2.htm)

Or the Alouette II that was often used, that’s very vintage by now.

Have we had this one?
The Devil’s Brigade. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062886/
Aerial stuff filmed at the BoB film preparation base – RAF Henlow in 1967/8.
Mark
A tenuous link, Cliff Robertson owned and operated MK923 for a few years.

An American 1950’s movie with F-82’s & C-47’s in Alaska about rescue work. Lovely scenes of the Twin Mustangs skidding along the iced taxiways.
That would be the laughably bad “The Top of the World”.
But you forgot the nice shots of SB-17s in formation.
More here:

In the 1960’s American TV series “My Three Sons” with Fred MacMurray there was one with the story of the kids rebuilding an old airplane. They used the N.28 from the Tallmantz collection for the real flying scenes.
In the series, MacMurray’s character was an aeronautical engineer for a southern California aerospace firm.
Occasionally, they used a stock shot of a Bell 47 hovering outside a factory to set an upcoming scene at his office.

Here’s another while I think about it….
Mr Denning Drives North (1952) – When well-off aircraft designer Denning finds his daughter’s current boyfriend is a nasty character he tries to buy him off…

Aeroplanes appear in the background of a number of scenes and more prominently in a few.
Miles Hawk Trainer comes to grief quite early on in the film and a Miles Gemini appears later. Vampires and I think Hornets help fill some of the other background scenes.
It’s quite an enjoyable black comedy. A search of Youtube might…
